The Ross Center - Optimal Treatment for Anxiety & Mental Health
Multidisciplinary Treatment Center for Anxiety and Mental Health in Washington DC, Northern Virginia, and NYC.
For over 30 years, The Ross Center has been providing effective, long-lasting solutions that allow children and adults to live their best lives. Our internationally renowned psychiatrists, psychologists and therapists provide an array of evidence-based psychological and psychiatric treatments for a wide variety of mental health conditions. This unique, collaborative approach to treatment ensures that you receive the optimal mix of services, resulting in faster improvement, significant reduction in symptoms, and hope for a healthier future. The Ross Center was established by visionary anxiety specialist Jerilyn Ross, whose own struggle with mental illness inspired her to create a world-class mental health center for others whose lives have been disrupted by anxiety and depression. After receiving treatment for her own anxiety and phobia, she cofounded the Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA) in 1979. We pride ourselves on keeping up with the latest research and providing the best practices to our patients and their families. As anxiety and depression rates have skyrocketed, the need for short-term, effective treatment for mental health disorders has grown. We’ve responded to that need with expanding mental health centers in Washington DC, Northern Virginia, and New York City. Our compassionate patient care team is trained to listen carefully to your concerns and direct you to the clinician and/or type of service best suited to your situation. You’ll find offices that have been designed for your comfort, with calming interiors in a relaxed setting. In addition, we offer evening and weekend hours so that booking an appointment is not another stressor in your life. We Can Help - Call us to schedule your first appointment.

Loneliness isn’t just about being alone. Many people feel deeply lonely even when they’re surrounded by others, staying busy, or doing everything they believe they’re “supposed” to do. Over time, that sense of disconnection can take a real toll on emotional and physical health.
If you’ve ever wondered why connecting with others feels so hard, or why relationships don’t feel as fulfilling as you hoped, you’re not alone. And there are evidence-based ways to work with this, including an approach called Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO DBT). If you’re curious about how RO-DBT can help with your loneliness, read our new blog post on loneliness, social connection, and how RO DBT can help!

Many people come to therapy for reasons unrelated to substance use, such as anxiety, relationship stress, burnout, grief, or major life transitions. At some point, though, a question often comes up:
“Is my drinking a problem?”
“Do I smoke too much weed?”
These questions rarely come from nowhere. They often arise when someone notices a shift, like using alcohol or cannabis more often, relying on it to unwind, or feeling uneasy about how it fits into their life. Importantly, many people feel ambivalent about their relationship to substances. They may enjoy aspects of it and also feel uncertain or uncomfortable about how much they rely on it. Therapy can hold both of these truths at the same time, without rushing toward a conclusion.
Rather than approaching these questions through a lens of “good” or “bad,” therapy offers a more useful framework: function and impact. If questions about substance use are coming up for you, therapy can offer a supportive space to explore them at your own pace. You don’t need a diagnosis or a crisis to start the conversation. Reaching out can be a first step toward greater clarity and support.

Job searching requires a surprising amount of executive functioning. Planning. Organizing. Initiating tasks. Managing deadlines. Regulating emotions after rejection. Repeating the process again and again. If you find yourself staring at your resume, over-editing one bullet point for an hour, avoiding applications altogether, or feeling overwhelmed by where to start, this may not be laziness. Executive functioning challenges are common in ADHD, anxiety, depression, and during periods of high stress. If you need support, the ross center can help you break large goals into manageable steps, reduce perfectionism and avoidance, build systems that work for your brain, strengthen emotional regulation during transitions.

RO DBT is an evidence-based treatment developed to help individuals who struggle with symptoms or personality traits that result in emotional “overcontrol”. While self control is a good thing, too much self control can lead to problems with perfectionism, rigidity and difficulties in personal relationships. In our RO DBT skills classes you will learn to loosen the grip of perfectionism and rule governed behaviors, form deeper connections with others, and develop greater emotional awareness.

Social justice in mental health means recognizing that experiences of race, culture, gender, socioeconomic status, and trauma shape how individuals access and experience care. Ethical, effective treatment requires awareness of these realities.

As the winter months settle in, many people notice a shift in mood, energy, and motivation. Shorter days, colder weather, and limited sunlight can throw off your circadian rhythm in ways that feel uncomfortable but manageable. For others, the change is more intense. They may struggle day nearly every day with a type of depression known as Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD, a condition that follows a clear seasonal pattern, typically beginning in the fall and winter and easing as spring returns.
Understanding the difference between mild winter fatigue and the more serious depressive symptoms of SAD can help you get the support you need. If you’re unsure which category your experience falls into, swipe through the signs and explore interventions that work.
If you want tailored support or an evaluation, clinicians at The Ross Center in Washington DC, Northern Virginia, and New York City are available for in-person and virtual care.
