Gut health is a rapidly evolving area of nutrition science, and consumer interest continues to grow, but what does the evidence actually show? This session reviews key functions of the gut microbiome and its relationship to health outcomes, translating emerging science into practical applications for nutrition professionals. Participants will gain clarity on the differences between fermented foods, probiotics, and prebiotics, highlighting strain and dose relevance, and the impact of various complex carbohydrates on modulating the microbiota. The presentation also covers practical considerations such as label reading and strategies to incorporate microbiome-supporting foods into everyday eating patterns.

If you’re new to the legislative process, this informal event is the perfect introduction to the nuts and bolts of how laws are made in Vermont. A legislative breakfast is an opportunity to chat with our elected representatives over coffee and granola to discuss how the dietitian licensure compact legislation affects continuity of care, and our ability to earn a livelihood providing MNT via telehealth.

Network with VAND Board members, fellow RDs and dietetic students, and help to highlight the role of the dietitian in supporting a healthy Vermont.

The Vermont Legislature will convene on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. When they do, Vermont dietitians will be ready to support the passage of House Bill 296, which will make Vermont part of the national dietitian licensure compact now underway. Join VAND, AND national policy team members and Vermont legislators in reviewing the impacts this compact can have for VT RDs, and how we can work together to get it passed.

To make sure we are ready to hit the ground running, VAND is hosting a free webinar for all Vermont based RDs (members and non-members) on Thursday, November 6 from 1:00pm to 2:15pm. We have applied for 1.25 continuing education credits. This event is open to Vermont residents only. Feeding for the Future: Using Science to Build Habits, Resilience, and Joy at the Table
📅 November 4, 2025 | 2:00-3:00pm ET
Presented by: Marina Chaparro, RDN, CDCES, MPH

Parents navigating the journey of feeding children are often met with outdated advice, conflicting information, and little practical guidance—leading to stress, nutrition gaps, picky eating, and the fear of “getting it wrong.”

As registered dietitians, we play a key role in bridging the gap between science and real life—equipping parents with the tools to raise confident, adventurous eaters from infancy through the teenage years.
