Hi, Everyone,
First, I would like to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas and to everyone else .....Happy Hanukka, Happy Kwanzaa and any other holiday celebrations people may observe.
I know that this is a little long but........
PLEASE READ THIS. THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED TO ME!!!
I would like to share with you something that I think is very important as the hackers, thieves, and general human degenerates (who think that they have the right to take from others what does not belong to them!!) are oozing along like the slime of the earth that they are, making "The Grinch" look like Saint Nikolas in an attempt to steal what might be all that one may have left to buy Christmas gifts.
I am on the board of the Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association as I am a chairperson of one of the committees.
We were having our bi-annual dinner meeting (one week prior we had our board meeting). The morning of the meeting I supposedly received the following e-mail from the acting president:
#1
" Hi, Valerie,
Are you available at the moment?"
I responded, yes.
#2
"Hi, Valerie,
Here's what I would like you to do for me: I've been working on incentives to surprise some of our diligent members with gift cards. This needs to remain confidential until all members have received their gift cards, as it's meant to be a surprise.
I'd like you to pick up Apple Gift Cards for me, and I will reimburse you once my conference meeting is over today. You can purchase them at any store near you. The total amount needed is Three cards worth $100 each. After purchasing, please open the packaging and locate the silver line on each card. Scratch it off to reveal the main PINs, then take clear pictures of each card and email the images to me here. This will make it easier for me to forward the cards to the deserving members. Kindly keep the physical cards and receipt for reference.
How soon will you be able to get the cards today?
Kind regards,
Acting president's name"
How this person(s) knew that our meeting was that evening I do not know. Perhaps it was just a coincidence. I had a negative gut reaction but, because the meeting was that evening, I initially responded "yes", thinking it was legitimate. Then I began thinking more critically:
1) I texted the acting president and asked if she had sent the
email and she emphatically responded, "NO!!!!"
2) I called the Saratoga County Sheriff and reported it. Of
course, they could do nothing as an actual crime had not
yet been committed.
3) I emailed back these slimes of the earth and told them that I
know that this is a scam, I reported it to the Saratoga
Sheriff's Department and DO NOT CONTACT ME AGAIN.
4) I never heard from them again.
5) Of course, I must give them credit for reminding me to keep
the cards and the receipt for reference....I thought that was
very considerate of them.
PLEASE be careful. These people DENGENERATE, and EVIL as they are, will take from you or anyone whatever they want with no remorse or conscience. It is difficult for me to accept that they are so "Smart". I think that they are LUCKY and because they send out "generic type messages" they are able hit on something that just happens to have enough of an element of truth to it that somehow people get nailed. Not because they are "gullible" or because they are "stupid" but because we are all distracted because of the holidays, the stress of it all, etc. And because there is that element of truth we can be victimized.
Again, PLEASE be careful. Much love to you all,
Val
