Hazard Analysis – What’s Going to Go Wrong?
Before any job, take a minute to ask yourself: What could go wrong? That simple question can prevent injuries and save lives.
Understanding the Hierarchy of Control helps you stay one step ahead. Remember it with this easy phrase:
👉 “Every Sunday Eat Apple Pie”
🔴 E – Elimination
Get rid of the hazard completely.
🟠 S – Substitution
Swap it out for something less harmful.
🟡 E – Engineering Controls
Fix it or build something to keep you away from the hazard.
🔵 A – Administrative Controls
Understand the risk. Think, learn, and communicate.
(JSAs, SWAs, signage, flags, labels, SDSs, windsocks, EAPs, SOPs, meetings, discussions, and TRAININGS)
🟢 P – PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
Wear the right gear to reduce the severity of injury.
