Jumping on this trend with some birth truths as a doula and momma to 4.

Some of which took a me a long time to find my own way to.

Woman to woman 🤝 we should be compassionately and boldly sharing our gained wisdom with one another.

And not the rose colored glasses version or avoiding the hard topics.

Women don't need yet another person in pregnancy telling them what they want to hear. We want honesty and transparency.

Lets spark intellectual conversation, and opportunity to explore emotions that may arise- these are our greatest teachers.

What bold wisdom would you share with mothers?

Let me hold you, just a minute longer.

Let me feel the weight of you in my arms, and your little hand my chest.

Let me memorize your tiny features as I realize just how different they are from when you were born.

If only I could bottle your scent and how soft your skin is, so one day I could experience it again when the ache of 'those days' is just too much.

But life doesn't work like that. These sweet moments are fleeting. Lasts happen before we even realize as much.

I will rub her tiny, fuzzy head and be thankful for each moment, and that I was afforded the privelage of mothering these young babies of mine.

Signed,
A Mother, deep in her feels

An affirmation

For the body and mind of the woman who needs to soften into the discomfort.

The one who maybe has never been allowed to be soft in all her life.

It is safe to be soft, is it safe to be open.

Your baby is coming. ✨️

Mothers supporting daughters in birth 🫶

Ohhhh my is this is such a beautiful dynamic to witness...

It was so moving to watch the outpour of deep love from this mother-daughter, best friend, duo. As she prepared to birth her baby, she knew it was important to her to have her Mom by her side.

✨️ 3 generations of women in that room ✨️

And a door to begin healing the story of birth her mother carried.

•••

If you're considering inviting your mother (or anyone for that matter) into your birth space, consider asking yourself these questions:

• Do I want them there? (If the answer is no, there's nothing else to consider)
• Why do I want them there?
• How does this person make me feel in daily life? What energy do they bring with them?
• Am I willing to be honest about expectations and boundaries, and are they willing to respect them? What will I do if they cross those boundaries?
• Does this person acknowledge me as the authority and decision maker in my birth?

The "Other Mother"

The placenta is the baby's organ, half moms DNA and half dad's, it belongs to them.

Sometimes called the "other mother" or 🌳 tree of life, as it nurtures and cares for the baby when in the womb- their life source. (And looks like a tree!)

The baby and placenta are in constant two way communication both before and after birth, just like the rest of baby's organs.

The placenta is highly respected in many cultures and out of hospital births, being handled delicately and not forcing it out of the Womb or cutting its tether from baby prematurely.

I didn't even see my placenta from my first 3 births. They were dumped in a bag and taken away without asking if I wanted anything else wise.

With Isla, my 4th, I was able to give her placenta the respect and gratitude I wanted to. This made my birth experience feel more complete and in alignment. It was really healing to my previous experiences, more so than I even realized it would.
