Golden Thread Doulas

Golden Thread Doulas We are a partnership of three like-minded birth doulas, who are passionate about bringing community back to birth.

In coming together as one, we provide a continual and unwavering stream of support for women as they navigate birth and motherhood.

"You're doulas so, you all had homebirths right?"

Sometimes people are curious about what we chose for our own birth experiences, and there is often the assumption that as doulas, we must have always chosen homebirth!

But our journies are like any other woman's. Each of us birthing our babies how we felt was best and needed at that given moment in our life, with the support and resources we had.

For some of us that looked like choosing community birth with midwifery care. Others of us had a variety of different kinds of births in different locations.

Between us 3 Golden Thread Doulas, we have 9 babies ➡️ 6 hospital births at different locations (some medicated, some unmedicated), 1 birth center birth, 1 midwife attended homebirth, 1 unassisted homebirth.

With each birth new lessons are learned and we are transformed, bending and shifting our inner landscape. We never birth as the same woman twice!

We are all mothers doing our best in any given moment with the information and resources we have for ourselves, our babies, and our family.

There is so much beauty in this ever changing transformation, and the power of choice.

We feel thankful for our own birth experiences and the way they have shaped us as women, and doulas who show up for women exactly where they are.

We are back with Part 2 of Breaking the “Rules” in Birth!
We want to be your gentle reminder that this is no ones’s journey but your own. Meet that with a strong conviction and practice in pregnancy to see out your birth as you wish it to unfold!
RULE #6 -Being quiet during labor means you’re in control and you’re good at “it”.
BREAK IT -Birth is PRIMAL, allowing your mind to sink into that primal space and not using your thinking brain actually helps the labor progress. Making noise (even loud noises), can help you relax your body, release blocks and guide you in pushing your baby out. There is no right or wrong, or good or bad in birth.
RULE #7 -You cannot eat or drink while in labor. You must also get an IV.
BREAK IT -Your only doing the biggest workout of your entire life......why would you not want to nourish and hydrate yourself along that journey. There is evidence that says for most mommas, it is completely safe in labor. Hydration is especially important in order to keep effective contractions happening, as well then utilizing your bladder, an empty bladder helps baby decend! Proper oral hydration is the exact reason there would be no need for an IV.
RULE #8 -The lights need to be on and you must stay in the labor room. Bright lights are important so that the medical staff can see everything happening.
BREAK IT -IT IS YOUR BIRTH! Not the staff, medical team, your care provider or doulas. Set the atmosphere of your birth space however feels good to you. If that means dim lights, low voices and a calm environment, make it happen. Maybe you want to roam the halls, use hydrotherapy, birth balls and movement. Dream up the environment you envision for your birth and see it through.
RULE #9 -You should have your family and friends on alert or notify them while in labor. Having visitors right after your birth is normal.

“There is a moment in labor when no one can do it for you. Not your partner. Not your doula. Not your midwife or doctor. It’s you and your body...doing what only YOU can do. That moment is powerful, but it’s also something you can prepare for, because when you’ve practiced surrender, trust, and calm before labor begins, you’ll know how to find your footing when it comes.” -

The mental prep is just as important as the physical prep, you will never pull a tool from the toolbox you have never touched or tried before! We can help you peel back these layers in your prenatal appointments, contact us at www.goldenthreaddoulas.com

Planning to breastfeed?
Here are a few mists before your baby arrives earthside:
✨Don’t skip the breastfeeding class because you know friends or family who have done it, every journey is so different but understanding basics is your foundation.
✨Learn about a baby’s latch and a good vs bad one, see a lactation consultant during pregnancy and after baby arrives, worth every penny.
✨Even though it’s instinctual for mom and baby, it is definitely a learned skill, your body needs help on what to do and how often, putting baby to breast frequently signals milk production so that you build your supply
✨Skin to skin and frequent feeds are very important

Bottom line, learn what you can and plan just as you do for pregnancy, labor and birth. You will thank yourself later. Lastly gather your support team ahead of time! We love .lakecountry and

Happy World Doula Week! 🌎💫

If you speak to a doula, you'll quickly understand that this work is a calling, a soul-purpose.

Being a doula isn't about certifications or memorizing spinning babies.

It's about showing up wholey, authentically, meeting mothers exactly where they are at, and knowing the nuance of navigating the birth space.

It's about intention in all you do and say, or even more importantly knowing when not to do anything at all.

It certainly isn't Instagram glamorous

It's 3am calls, emptying the vomit bin, squeezing hips til your forearms shake, missing holidays and events, driving through snow storms, and a fried nervous system.

But it's the most special, rewarding work that never ceases to leave you in awe.

So if you're in it, from three doulas to another, we see you.

Thank you doulas!

💫 What does weaving together intimacy and collective wisdom mean?

We believe that doula support is extra special because over our time together, we get to know you deeply - your hopes, fears, dreams, and traumas.

Your birthing time is one of the most vulnerable and intimate moments of your life. Whoever enters that space needs to be someone you trust and know well.

When you choose Golden Thread Doulas, you get one-on-ones with each of us to build that trust and intimacy.

These one-on-ones also allow all of us to share our collective wisdom with you - and you with us.

As any doula can tell you, each birth is a learning experience for every person involved.

And when you share your story, others can benefit from your wisdom too. That is one reason we choose to offer monthly workshops open to all of our current clients.

At Golden Thread Doulas, we believe in the importance of educating yourself on your options. One of the ways we support that is by offering an extensive lending library, with over 50 books available to our clients.

We have amassed books on topics ranging from pregnancy, birth prep, mindfulness, postpartum, nutrition, breastfeeding, and everything in between!

As a client, you will get a list of these titles in your support binder. Simply let us know if there is a book you are interested in and we will get it to you.

All we ask is that you please return any borrowed books by our final postpartum visit!
