When a horse loses impulsion, it’s often assumed they’re just tired or unmotivated.

But sometimes it’s a physical restriction.

You might notice:

• Shortened stride behind
• Reduced push from the hind end
• Flat movement through transitions
• Decreased engagement

Restrictions in the pelvis or lumbar spine can limit the horse’s ability to generate power from behind.

Chiropractic care helps restore motion so the hind end can function more effectively.

When a horse struggles to stop or feels like they’re running through the bridle, it’s often assumed to be a training or control issue.

But sometimes it’s a coordination problem in the body.

You might notice:

• Hard to rebalance in transitions
• Leaning into the hand
• Difficulty engaging the hind end
• Feeling “heavy” in front

When the hind end and spine aren’t coordinating well, the horse has difficulty shifting weight back.

Chiropractic care helps restore communication through the body so transitions become easier and more balanced.

Does your horse feel great one direction…
but stiff the other way?

Common signs include:

• Falling in or out on circles
• Difficulty bending one direction
• Bracing through the neck
• Dropping a shoulder

Bending requires coordinated movement through the neck, ribs, and spine.

If one area becomes restricted, horses often compensate by leaning, bracing, or avoiding the bend entirely.

Helping restore mobility to the spine can make bending easier and more comfortable.

Sometimes what feels like a training issue is really a mobility issue.

When a horse struggles with collection, it’s often assumed to be a training or strength issue.

But sometimes it’s a mechanical restriction.

You might notice:

• Difficulty sitting behind
• Evading or rushing through collected work
• Loss of balance in transitions
• Inability to maintain engagement

Collection requires coordination through the pelvis, lumbar spine, and ribcage.

If any part of that system is restricted, the horse will struggle to organize their movement.

Chiropractic care helps restore mobility so the horse can move more freely into collection.

When a horse drops or hollows their back under saddle, it often reflects a lack of spinal mobility or discomfort through the thoracolumbar junction.

Instead of engaging and lifting through the back, they may brace downward as a protective pattern.

Chiropractic care helps restore motion so the horse can better support the rider and engage correctly through their core.

Sometimes the signs of discomfort are subtle.

You might notice your horse:

• Taking a shorter step behind
• Feeling uneven in the trot
• Struggling to lengthen their stride
• Feeling stiff on one side

These changes often happen when joints in the spine or pelvis aren’t moving normally.

When that happens, surrounding muscles compensate and the stride becomes restricted or uneven.

Chiropractic care focuses on restoring normal motion to the joints so the horse can move more freely and comfortably.

If your horse feels different in their stride lately, it may be worth taking a closer look.

When a typically willing horse starts:

• Pinning ears
• Swishing tail excessively
• Tossing head
• Refusing jumps
• Acting “sour” in the barn

…it’s worth asking why.

Behavior is communication.

Spinal restrictions can create discomfort, altered nerve signaling, and muscle guarding. Horses don’t always limp when they’re uncomfortable — they change behavior.

A personality shift is often a body issue first.

If something feels different lately, trust that instinct.

If your horse suddenly:

• Picks up the wrong lead
• Cross-fires behind
• Swaps leads behind but not in front
• Feels resistant in transitions

…it’s often not a training issue.

Lead departures require coordinated movement through the pelvis, lumbar spine, and ribcage. Even subtle restrictions can make one lead mechanically harder to achieve.

When the body can’t move correctly, compensation shows up in the canter first.

Before assuming attitude or lack of training — check the mechanics.

Message me if your horse has been feeling uneven in transitions lately.

We routinely maintain:
• Teeth
• Hooves
• Saddles
• Nutrition

But the spine — the central communication highway of the body — often gets overlooked until something goes wrong.

Chiropractic care isn’t just for injuries.
It supports:

• Joint mobility
• Nervous system function
• Muscle symmetry
• Injury prevention
• Long-term performance longevity

Especially for:
• Senior horses
• Horses in heavy training
• Horses coming back from time off
• Horses that have had falls or trailer stress

Proactive care is always easier than reactive care.

If your horse hasn’t been checked in a while, this is your reminder. 🐴

Most performance issues aren’t training problems.
They’re comfort problems.

When a horse isn’t moving freely through their neck, back, or pelvis, you might notice:

• Shortened stride
• Resistance in transitions
• Difficulty picking up a lead
• Behavioral changes under saddle
• Subtle “attitude” shifts

Chiropractic care helps restore normal joint motion, reduce compensation patterns, and support the nervous system — which directly impacts movement, balance, and performance.

Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs don’t come from riding harder…
They come from helping the body move the way it was designed to.

If your horse feels “off” but you can’t quite put your finger on it, that’s often the first sign.

I just received this message from a client whose horse I adjusted yesterday. 🐎❤️

Some people don't "believe" in chiropractic, but animals are proof that what we do helps, whether you believe it or not. 😉
