The Huntington Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy will be holding a grave marker dedication for Abraham Davis at Bowen Cemetery inside of Beech Fork State Park on Sunday June 1st at 3:00. There will be speakers and a bagpiper performing with the highlight being the unveiling of the gravestone. The previous stone was a fieldstone with only the soldier’s initials carved into it. Bring a chair as seating is not available.

Clean Up Day! April 5, 2025 Saturday Fairview Cemetery on Chalk Hill Road on Fort Gay WV start time 10 am. Grab a w**d eater or leaf rake and come help prepare the Fairview Cemetery for summer mowing! A section of the fence has fallen and needs put back up and some tree branches need cut up and removed. Hope to see you there!

Join us this Saturday, March 8 at noon for our quarterly meeting. Our society is located at 484 Main Street, Ceredo, WV 25507 in the old Ceredo Elementary.

Our guest speaker will be James Hale who will discuss the story of his ancestors, the Polley family. They were free black people who were kidnapped in Ohio and sold into slavery on the Tug River in Wayne County.

During the 1880s, school leaders in Ceredo approved the construction of a small frame schoolhouse for African American children that operated until the 1930s at this location. The school was one of several in Wayne County that were attended by African American children during the era of segregation....
