For the past two years, Mariza Lamb has been an important part of the Van Diest Medical Center team, helping create a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for everyone who walks through our doors.

Mariza takes pride not only in her work, but in the people she works alongside every day. She values the strong sense of teamwork within her department and the support they show one another.

“It makes me happy to get recognition from the management team for all my hard work I do,” she said. “My co-workers are good, we have good teamwork. We help each other when we get very busy. We are concerned for each other and make sure everybody’s work is done before we leave for the day.”

Her journey to Iowa has brought some unforgettable firsts. Mariza shared that she didn’t get her driver’s license until just three years ago—and before moving here nine years ago, she had never even seen snow.

“Driving in Iowa, especially in winter, a blizzard or icy weather is an incredible experience,” she said, adding, “In the Philippines, we did not have snow.”

Outside of work, Mariza enjoys listening to music, cooking Filipino dishes for her husband, and spending time with their “fat, funny” cat, Milo.

Earlier this week, several team members gathered at Van Diest Medical Center to witness the raising of the Donate Life flag in honor of National Donate Life Month.

As the flag was lifted, CEO Lisa Ridge shared a powerful reminder of the impact of donation. Nationwide, more than 100,000 people are currently waiting for lifesaving organ transplants. In 2025 alone, more than 49,000 transplants gave patients and their families a second chance at life.

Today, more than 170 million people are registered as organ, eye, and tissue donors—each one offering hope, healing, and the possibility of life.

Moments like this remind us that even the smallest decision can make the biggest difference.

Some of the sweetest moments at Van Diest Medical Center happened this morning… 🐾💛

Tedwin, our beloved therapy dog, and his owner Toni, spent time visiting with a few of our youngest patients—and it’s safe to say he made a big impression. Malachi was all smiles as he enjoyed some special cuddle time with Tedwin, a moment filled with comfort, warmth, and pure joy.

Tedwin has a way of making everything feel lighter. His gentle presence, wagging tail, and unconditional affection remind us that healing isn’t just medical—it’s emotional, too.

Thank you, Tedwin and Toni, for sharing your heart and making moments like this possible. 🐶✨
