DUTCH TESTING - from the Britt shop is now offering Dutch testing. What is it? It stands for dried urine test for comprehensive hormones. Is a superior way to test for endocrine function, then the traditional saliva and blood test. It is non-invasive, done in the convenience of your own home, provides a detail analysis of hormone balances, identifies root causes of issues, it is backed by peer review to research, a more accurate treatments are designed based on the results. Some of the many things that a test for include.; free, cortisol patterns, melatonin, antigen, metabolites, basic hormones, estrogen, metabolites, and cortisol metabolites. DM me if you’re interested all this can be done via your in-home testing and via telehealth calls.

What is integrative medicine? Integrative medicine according to AI is a healthcare approach that combines conventional medicine with evidence-based complementary therapies to treat the whole person – mind-body and spirit. For me, it’s the beautiful balance and personalized concoction of allopathic systems, bodywork, ancient often times indigenous traditions from other lands or even our own. Is with deep respect and appreciation that I have the privilege of being able to borrow from these traditional healing arts from other cultures. The picture shows the Rebozo. The Rebozo is a traditional Mexican shawl, but there are similar scarves or shawls in different cultures as well being used in a similar manner. Closing of the bone ceremony is a postpartum ritual from various cultures that helps give closure to a woman’s body and spirit to help recover from childbirth. Closing other bone ceremonies are also instrumental in any life transition where there is closure or death involved. We cannot extract the spirit or the soul From our health as much as the allopathic system would like to. The complete allopathic system is not about prevention, but rather in response to pathology or disease. There are beautiful traditions from all over the world that support us to feel whole as a mind, body and spirit and fragmented pieces ®

BREECH birth could be construed as “as a variation of normal” much of the time until it Isn’t . What does that mean? That means whether you are planning on attending that breech presenting birth as a midwife, birth attendant, OB, whomever…OR it is an undiagnosed breech presentation and that birth is Happening, you need to know how to RECOGNIZE EVERYTHING. What is “everything?” It is the cardinal movements of a “normal” complete, incomplete or frank presenting infant. It is knowing deviations of normal with a baby that is vigorous. Is is knowing when to let the birth happen without stepping in to help and when to step in to help that baby so that the vigor is not lost. It is recognizing a non-vigorous baby and how to step in promptly. Breech without borders has almost single handlely put breech information back on the map. Just like Neonatal resuscitation, being prepared is a responsibility we all have. Friday class is sold out but Thursday has been added ! Taught by Kristine Lauria, a LM, CPM that has been the primary attendant for over 600 breech births and over 400 multiples around the world. She is passionate about creating safety around this subject matter. This is not a romantic notion, this is about creating better outcomes in a world that needs more informed consent and basic individual autonomy . COME JOIN US! QR Code provided

I tend to not vilify anything. Most everything serves a purpose and that purpose is or should be individualized. In the birth space, epidurals can serve a purpose. They can help an exhausted mother rest and reset before having the energetic capacity to birth vaginally. The list of uses are numerous. But (there is a but), they do create a disconnection between the experience of the mother and that of the baby, the mother no longer is intimately feeling with every fiber of her being the sensations of labor. She is no longer needing to be fully engaged in the labor process to the exemption of everything else going on. The baby though is still in it completely, as the epidural does not give the infant a respite from these sensations. And thank god . We know through studies that this is beneficial to the infant. We know that it prepares them to transition to extra uterine life. The mother of Hudson had birthed vaginally twice before in the hospital with an epidural . This time she chose to take on the challenge of complete immersion into labor. That it was her power to keep. That it was her Darma to feel every sensation of labor and birth. That she was called to walk through it despite the fear that would creep in to her consciousness. She birthed on the floor of her living room, supported by her life partner roaring her baby out. Bearing witness to this complete unfolding, undoing and transformation never gets old. Congratulations mama. Welcome to your power.

My home This post is more about the person that put his blood (literally), sweat and tears into building it. It was a combination of our visions, me as the owner, him as the builder, artist. It truly surpasses by a long shot, anything my limited thinking brain could envision. Rich blew me away when he built his own home up on stilts with cathedral ceilings. To then build this …for me… no words. My original plan was to make this video with him filming, but to turn the camera on him giving him the praise. But this seems more quietly appropriate fully giving him the spot light. Over time, the house will flip flop from being his piece of devotion displayed as functional art to being my hopefully forever home . Welcome home

Less than one year ago I wrote about “radical responsibility” within the realm of birth. Little was I to know that this year would challenge me to fully explore this concept. Through experiences of joy and pain, through continually re creating reiterations of what my dharma is, where my boundaries lie, what I can or can’t hold space for even when a family understands the possible consequences. It was about the heart break of needing to re-evaluate relationships, it was about finding feelings of increased safety and solidarity with a team of like minded sisters. It was about curating relationships with clients that promise full companionship no matter where, how long, and how someone is going to give birth. For the mother of Ford and Rodney, this opportunity to heal from past birth trauma and abandonment was long in coming. There is no PERIOD at the end of this story. There is no finality to healing, no ARRIVAL to be whole. But owning one’s agency and knowing you are the center of your care is paramount. Beyond blessed to have been the provider of another twin birth

Great news! In light that Orlando has exceeded the limit of one day for the breech training, they have added a second day! Friday, October 10th has been added. With a little over three months out, sign up before the class is full! In addition, the online portion is the largest part of the training and takes time to cover. It is robust and full of information including foundational studies supporting breech maneuvers, videos, statistics, instructions and more!

Three sets of twins in 6 weeks. The first was a planned hospital birth, second a planned home birth and third was an unplanned hospital birth. To be honest, I would be hard pressed to be forced to say which birth was “the most sacred and beautiful”. All three were awe-inspiring. All three used only intermittent auscultation to survey the babies response to labor, which studies demonstrate repeatedly is superior to continuous electronic fetal monitoring, all three birthed their babies off of their backs and labored upright. All three did not have IVs (one had a saline lock), all three did not have epidurals, all three had strongly advocated for themselves leading up to birth and had a birth attendant (me) to act as the bridge to get to their desired way of birthing. In awe of Tampa General Hospital and Orlando Health Bay Front, for the respect they demonstrated to these couples. I know it was not easy. “Sitting on one’s hands in the birth space in medicalized settings is not common”. There is no “one” way. There is no need to vilify any birthing setting such as the home or the hospital. They both hold nuanced and abundant risks and benefits that include individualized desires and personal factors. The two extreme beliefs that do not hold space for each other is what is WRONG. Birth location such as the home or hospital is not “bad”. It is just distraction to the real problem of denying choice and autonomy of decision making. I believe that it is not black and white only. Attending three twin births in six week( two were only a few days apart) was incredible. Holding space for these strong mamas was a complete gift.
