During her midwifery training, founder Stacy Besserud uncovered a powerful piece of her family history: her three times great grandmother, Eliza Jane Knox, had served as a Granny Midwife in rural Tennessee.
Eliza delivered countless babies in her community, including Stacy’s own maternal grandfather and his sister, guided by traditional knowledge, intuition, and deep compassion.
In honor of Eliza Jane, The Knox Birth Center was born, not just in name but in mission. We proudly carry forward her legacy, blending the timeless wisdom of traditional midwifery with modern evidence based tools to provide a birth experience that is safe, peaceful, and empowering.
As a tribute to Eliza and her Tennessee roots, our logo features the iris, the Tennessee state flower, symbolizing faith, hope, wisdom, and fortitude.
At The Knox Birth Center, we believe every birth is sacred. Through the hands of our midwives and the heart of our practice, we honor the past while looking with hope and excitement for the future!
