In May 1987, Peggy married her best friend and lifelong companion, Terry Kuss, son of Carl and Ida Kuss. Together they shared a life filled with love and support.

Peggy found joy in life’s simple pleasures, home-cooked meals, baking, gardening, and birdwatching. She especially loved caring for her many pet rabbits and Pomeranians. An active community member, she participated in 4-H and the Llama Project and supported the Washington County Humane Society and the Museum of Wisconsin Art. Carol Ann Campbell

Carol Ann (nee Oudinot) Campbell, age 92, passed away on November 11, 2025 at her home in Jackson. She was born on June 24, 1933, in Milwaukee, WI to the late Robert and Agnes (née Fickler) Oudinot.

Carol grew up in Milwaukee, WI and graduated from Rufus King High School in 1951. She worked at a local dimestore right after high school.

Carol married her high school sweetheart, Chuck, on October 14, 1952, and they were married for almost 73 years. Chuck came home on leave from the Air Force for the weekend so they could get married. After the wedding, Carol lived with Chuck’s parents while he was stationed in Greenland during the Korean War. Later as an Air Force wife, she moved her family to Washington state and to Maine to be with her husband and live on the base. When Chuck got out of the Air Force, they moved back to Milwaukee where Chuck found a job and Carol worked inside the home keeping house and raising the boys.

Carol was a talented cook. She made the best pickles from cucumbers grown in her garden. She made coffeecakes as Christmas gifts for the family, and she started making all different kinds of Christmas cookies shortly before Thanksgiving. She and Chuck spent hours wrapping the Christmas treats in different colored cellophane. Both sons have carried on this tradition.

Chuck and Carol built a cabin in Waupaca in 1972 and took many trips “up North” until they sold it in 2008. You’d find her outside there in the summer, sitting on an inflatable raft still half on the shore, listening to the Brewers game on the radio and complaining about the pitching. She’d take the pedal boat for a spin, but only if she had the floatation cushions. All that time at the lake and Carol never learned how to swim! Carol enjoyed card games and crossword puzzles. She was an avid watcher of the game show channel on TV. She had a green thumb when it came to geraniums, and she enjoyed painting ceramics.

Carol was a child at heart and she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was quick with a mischievous smile and willing to try any crazy game they came up with. She often reminisced about happy times spent with all of them.

Carol is survived by her two sons, Jim (Irene) and Gary (Amy). Carol is further survived by her five grandchildren, Jason, Kelly, Matt, Allison, and Heather; her five great-grandchildren, Oisin, Gage, Mikaela, Cashaes, and Jordynn; and her former sister-in-law, Myrtle Witter, and Myrtle’s four children.

Carol is preceded in death by her loving husband, Chuck, who died in September. Also preceding Carol in death are her parents, her mother-in-law, Eva Campbell, her father-in-law, Thomas Frederick Campbell, her brother, Robert Oudinot, and her sister-in-law, Carol Richards.

A memorial celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 15th at 10:00 a.m. at Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home in West Bend. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed immediately by the funeral service with Pastor Paul Mittermaier from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Jackson officiating. Afterward, committal will take place at Washington County Memorial Park.

Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Jackson, WI.

Joseph "Joe" E. Billmann

Joseph Emil Billmann, age 84 years, of West Bend passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, at Kathy Hospice in West Bend.

Joe was born on February 17, 1941, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, to Henry and Mabel Billmann. He was united in marriage with Mary Jo Peters in 1966.

Joe grew up in Sheboygan Falls and graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School with the Class of 1959. He went on to Sheboygan County Teachers College and later UW-Oshkosh, obtaining an Education degree in 1963. He later obtained a Masters degree from UW-Milwaukee with dozens of post-Masters credits in Education and Counseling. He was a career teacher in West Bend, teaching various subjects in sixth grade for 36 years.

Mary was his true companion. They spent six decades together on their journeys through teaching, parenthood, grandparenthood, traveling, celebrations, and challenges. Their traits and personalities so perfectly complemented each other.

Nearly a lifelong trombone player, Joe cherished time with his brother Jim making music and reveling in post-concert gemütlichkeit. Over the decades, they played countless gigs together with the River City Irregulars, River City Blaskapelle and the Billmann Band. He had a love for Big Band instrumentals, arrangements of jazz standards with thick low brass, jazz guitar, and classic jazz trios. Count Basie, Oscar Peterson, Les Brown, and Herb Ellis were among his favorites.

Joe’s world view was undoubtedly shaped by travel to Egypt, Turkey, China, Italy, Ireland, Germany and many parts of the United States. He had a genuine interest in people and would often ask about their jobs, families and hobbies—usually preceded by a pointed one-liner to break the ice. He went to as many of his kids’ and grandkids’ games, events, recitals, concerts, conferences, and graduations as he could possibly attend. Family celebrations, holiday get-togethers and church functions at Peace UCC were among his highest priorities. Joe relished his role as grandpa, dispensing wisdom and having fun throughout his grandkids’ early years until well into their 20s.

In retirement, Joe volunteered his time with Habitat for Humanity, Badger and Silverbrook Middle Schools, Roots & Branches, Peace Church, and various music groups.

Most of all, Joe enjoyed making people laugh and feel welcome. His humor and dry wit—a potent combination best described as an amalgam of W.C. Fields, Henny Youngman, Johnny Carson and Yosemite Sam—touched everyone he knew. He lived his life with authenticity and integrity.

Joe is survived by his wife, Mary; brother, James (Sue); brothers- and sisters-in-law, David and Deborah Peters and Richard Peters; sons, Andrew (Kathy Kettner) and Peter; grandchildren, Rachael (Tristan Swihart), Alex, Kyra (Jessy Wiskofske), and Laura (Nick Hammen); six nieces and nephews, countless friends and former students. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mabel; father-in-law, Earl Peters; mother-in-law, Jean Peters; sister-in-law, Sharon Peters; many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.

VISITATION: Joe’s family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Peace United Church of Christ, 343 1st St, Kewaskum, WI 53040.

SERVICE: A celebration of Joe’s life will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Peace United Church of Christ, also on Saturday, November 22.

Memorials in Joe’s name can be directed to Peace UCC.

The family extends its deepest gratitude to the teams at Froedtert Hospital Neurosciences ICU and Kathy Hospice for their remarkable care and compassion.

Joseph William Kreis

On October 6, 2025 the trumpet was sounded & the gates were opened as Heaven gained a new resident.

Joseph W. Kreis passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, and Tucker, his dog.

Joe was born on August 22, 1943 in Milwaukee to his loving parents, Ray and Mary (nee Ricica) Kries. He had three siblings, Maryann Baertlein, Raymond Kreis, and Janet Dymale.

Joe was a student of West Bend High School’s graduating class of 1961, where he met his high school sweetheart, Janie Ripple. They got married on May 4, 1963 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Barton & were married 62 and a half years. Together they lived in West Bend, (Wisconsin), Fort Dodge,(Iowa) and East Grand Rapids,(Michigan).

They have 3 daughters; Kelly Shanovich, Jodi Mayer and Mary (Sean) Geniesse. Together Joe and Janie have 9 grandchildren; Hailey Shanovich (Galen Berquist), Jake Shanovich, Spencer Shanovich, Logan Mayer, Carter Mayer, Macy Jane Mayer, Jack Geniesse, Justin Geniesse, and Ella Geniesse.

Joe was honored to serve in the US Army National Guard. Joe was well known for his mechanical intelligence, his devotion to his family, his work ethic, and his contagious sense of humor. He enjoyed the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, and Nascar. He made it point to attend every school event and activity that his kids and grandkids participated in.

He started out as a Tool & Die Maker and throughout the years, he progressed to Vice President and General Manager of MA Gerett in Menomonee Falls, (Wisconsin). Coincidentally, MA Gerret was housed in the old Stopar Steel building where his father, Rav, had been a machinist many years prior. At Gerett Products, Joe became the Vice President and General Manager of 400 employees, and he was a mentor to many.

However, his ultimate and favorite job was his last career move. He became the owner of a small CNC Shop in Menomonee Falls called Snow Tool & Die Machine until his retirement. Joe loved owning his own business. It was a family affair as his wife, Janie, ran the office and Joe ran the shop.

Another loved member of Joe’s family was his miniature poodle, Tucker, who was his constant companion. When Joe’s health started to decline, Tucker became hyper-vigilant and became his personal caretaker & watch dog. Tucker stated glued to him until the very end.

Phillip E. "Phil" Hanson

Phillip E. “Phil” Hanson, 87, of West Bend, passed away on October 27, 2025, at Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk.

This is a true story, Phil Hanson’s journey began on September 24, 1938, in the river town of LaCrosse, born to Chester and Evelyn (nee Kolbo) Hanson. After graduating high school, he answered the call of duty and served two proud years in the U.S. Army. Life led him to West Bend, where fate—and a pair of skates—introduced him to Rita Gonring at the local rink. Their love story took flight on April 28, 1961, when they tied the knot in West Bend.

Phil’s passion for the skies soared early; by 24, he had earned his pilot’s license. Over the years, he owned multiple aircraft, including one he meticulously built with his own hands. He even flew commercially out of the West Bend Airport, blending skill with adventure. On the ground, his ingenuity shone through as he designed and sold casket lifts nationwide—a testament to his inventive spirit.

But Phil’s true gift was laughter. With a joke always at the ready and a twinkle in his eye, he brought smiles wherever he went. Breakfast outings with friends were among his favorite rituals, filled with good food and even better company. Phil lived with heart, humor, and a knack for lifting spirits—whether by plane or punchline.

Those Phil leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Rita; two children, Jeffrey Hanson of California and Todd (Lori) Hanson of Allenton; four grandchildren, Michael, Lauren, Brooke, and Rachel; three great-grandchildren, Hayden, Hunter, and Harper; other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by three brothers, Don Hanson, Duane Hanson, and Skip.

VISITATION: Phil’s family will greet relatives and friends at Myrhum – Patten Funeral & Cremation Service, 1315 W. Washington Street, in West Bend, on Monday, November 10, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.

SERVICE: A service for Phil will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home with military honor rites to follow.

The family would like to thank the Kathy Hospice for all of their care provided to Phil.
