Our doctors are Todd W. Heilskov, M.D., M.B.A., Christopher L. Haupert, M.D., James R. Singer, D.O., Two of our full-time doctors (Drs.

Iowa Retina Consultants is a highly specialized practice providing treatment for disorders of the retina and the vitreous of the eye. We are dedicate to providing ethical, compassionate care of the highest quality for our patients and prompt, courteous service for all referring doctors. The practice has grown over the years, adding offices in Cedar Rapids, Carroll and Mason City, to improve Iowans' access to quality retinal care. We enjoy excellent relationships with doctors across Iowa and receive referrals from many physicians throughout the state. In addition to our clinical work, we are leaders in our profession. Heilskov, Haupert) have served as President of the Iowa Academy of Ophthalmology and held various leadership positions with area hospitals and other medical organizations. We believe in giving back to our community. One way to accomplish this is to help in training the ophthalmologists of tomorrow. Our physicians combine this interest with their commitment to excellence in their capacity as adjunct clinical assistant professors in the University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. We also give back by serving as volunteer physicians for underprivileged patients.

A truly unique event is coming to Des Moines on September 7th. The Indianapolis Quartet, led by one of Dr. Haupert's best friends, Michael Strauss, will be giving a special concert at Hoyt Sherman Place in honor of Iowa’s only living Holocaust survivor, David Wolnerman.

The program will include three pieces performed by the quartet, all by Jewish composers, two of whom perished in concentration camps. There will also be remarks by Mr. Wolnerman’s grandson, Rabbi Daniel Wolnerman, as well as a slide presentation of Mr. Wolnerman’s incredible life story.

We think you would enjoy this one-of-a-kind event. Hope to see you there!

As a thank you to our dedicated staff and token of support to local Iowa businesses during the COVID-19 crisis, Iowa Retina is providing $50 for each of our staff members toward a meal at a local restaurant. Local restaurants are feeling the immediate impact of the pandemic, and we are requesting our staff visit these restaurants within the next couple of weeks. We hope other companies will join us in this effort to support their own staff and the local economy.

To Our Valued Patients:

The health, safety, and well-being of our patients, their families, and our staff is, as always, of paramount priority to us. While we have always striven to maintain a safe and clean environment, we are now taking extra measures in light of the recent COVID-19 outbreak.
Some of these efforts include the following:
• Formation of an ad hoc COVID-19 task group within our clinic to ensure our practices remain in line with recommendations of the CDC and the state health department to limit spread of the COVID-19 virus

• Requesting patients only bring 1 friend/family member along to appointments

• Encouraging patients/guests of the clinic to reschedule appointments if they have any cold/flu symptoms

• Sanitizing waiting room chairs and patient touch areas multiple times throughout the day

• Exam room chairs and equipment will be sanitized between patient encounters, as always

• Our physicians and staff will continue to clean their hands between each and every patient encounter

• As our physicians and some of our staff are exposed to greater numbers of patients, we may begin to don personal protective equipment (PPE) including masks and eyewear

• Hand sanitizer will be made available at the front desk for patient/guest use (pending continued supply from our vendors); soap and water are always available in the bathrooms

To summarize, we are dedicated to sustaining the safest environment possible for our patients and are committed to adjusting our action plan to the fluid COVID-19 situation per the evolving CDC recommendations and the authorities. We will continue to work diligently to protect all guests of our office and staff members. We welcome your feedback if we can further improve your visit to our clinic.
