Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapies such as Cognitive Therapy for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, or Cognitive Processing Therapy can be quite effective in treating PTSD and often are recommended as first-line treatments for PTSD. These are CBT approaches tailored specifically to treating PTSD, they are not simply a matter of โthink positiveโ or โfill out this worksheet.โ
The August 2022 edition of the Cognitive Behaviour Therapist includes an excellent article, Ten misconceptions about trauma-focused CBT for PTSD (Murray, et al, 2022, https://www.cambridge.org/.../3E8ED4F88E36DD519863F01D645...), that has been selected as the British Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Psychotherapyโs โArticle of the Month.โ
Take a look at it, I think youโll find it quite enlightening.
