As soon as spring hit, massage therapist will get an increase in clients complaining of plantar fasciitis pain. Why?
Flip flops, tight calves & fascia disaster.
1. Footwear: I get it, but your feet don't. Flip flops have a lack of arch support, lack of cushion and the lack of ankle support which can lead to plantar fasciitis, shin splint, toe deformities, etc. Don't want plantar fasciitis then don't wear flip flops. Shoes will good arch supports are key.
2. Tight calves: If you have plantar fasciitis, you will most likely have super tight calves. Having tight calf muscles limits ankle flexibility which in turn puts an increase strain on the plantar fascia (tissue on the bottom of your foot). Stretching your foot and calf muscles is key to relieving plantar fasciitis.
3. Fascia disaster: It is understandable to think where it hurts is where the problem is. And sometimes it is. Although, as many massage therapist will tell you, that is not always the case. Some problems with plantar fasciitis could come from as far up as the hamstrings. The fascia in the hamstring becomes restricted which affects the calves and ankle mobility. Boom plantar fasciitis.
If you are in need of help getting rid of plantar fasciitis or you are looking for ways to keep your feet in good condition, then I highly recommend scheduling your in-home massage appointment today.
