I’m Debbie Roppo, a Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach and speaker. My work centers around a simple truth. The body and mind that carry your life deserve the same care and attention as everything you are responsible for. Over the years I’ve worked with women navigating changing energy, shifting priorities, and the growing responsibilities that come with life and leadership. What I’ve seen again and again is that vitality, clarity, and steadiness don’t happen by accident. They are supported by the systems we build in our daily lives. I love coffee, so I’m saying this with respect and a tiny bit of sadness :(

It’s not giving you energy the way you think.

Caffeine blocks adenosine, the signal that tells your brain you’re tired. So you feel alert, but you’re really just overriding fatigue.

At the same time, it increases dopamine, which is why it feels so good, and cortisol, which is why it can feel a little… intense.

When hormones shift, the brain becomes more sensitive to that stimulation.

So what used to feel smooth can start to feel jittery, anxious, or like a crash waiting to happen.

Nothing wrong with coffee.

Just different feedback from the body.

Three simple things that can help support this:

• Drink water first
• Have a little food before coffee
• Wait a bit and let your natural cortisol rhythm, guided by the brain and pituitary, wake you up first

Most women don’t start.

Not because they’re lazy.
Because they’re overwhelmed and don’t know where to begin.

So they wait.

They overthink.
They try to figure it out alone.
They tell themselves they’ll start when it’s clearer.

And that moment rarely comes.

I see this all the time.

The women who actually move forward?

They stop trying to do it perfectly and stop trying to do it alone.

Everyone celebrates the bloom.

Almost no one talks about the fight it took to get there.

The pressure under the soil.
The darkness before the light.
The slow push upward that no one sees.

Growth rarely arrives looking graceful.

Sometimes it looks messy, uncomfortable, even confusing.

Yet that pressure is often what creates the strength.

I see this season in many women right now.

More awareness.
Less tolerance for what drains them.
A deeper honesty about what actually matters.

A lot of women tell me something interesting happens in this phase of life.

Their thinking changes.

For many women, it can feel frustrating or unfamiliar.

Researchers have been looking closely at this. Estrogen interacts with brain chemistry, including dopamine and serotonin, which influence focus, memory, and motivation.

When those signals shift, the brain can reorganize how it processes information.

What feels unsettling at first sometimes becomes something else entirely… clearer priorities and sharper discernment.

What if it’s refinement?

I see something interesting happen with many women in this phase.

Their tolerance drops.
Their clarity rises.
Their intuition gets louder.

They stop pushing through everything… and start choosing more carefully where their energy goes.

And oddly enough, they often become more effective leaders.

Less noise.
More discernment.

Quick question.

Why do so many women suddenly start waking in the middle of the night in this phase of life?

It’s not random.

When estrogen and progesterone shift, the brain becomes more sensitive to cortisol, the alertness hormone. So the body can flip from sleeping to wide awake much faster than it used to.

Inside you is vision.

Ideas that won’t leave you alone.
Dreams that still whisper.
A sense that you are not done yet.

The wise woman knows those things are sacred.

And she also knows they travel in a body.

Not in a spreadsheet.
Not in a strategy deck.
In a vessel.

The body that gets up early.
That carries the conversations.
That absorbs the stress and still shows up.

Supporting that vessel is not indulgent.

It is devotion to the calling inside you.

And every wise woman understands investment.

We invest in growth.
We invest in strategy.
We invest in what we believe in.

Sometimes the resources to strengthen your vessel are already set aside, waiting to be used.

The sage does not overlook available support.

She uses it wisely.

If you’re the woman who can feel a mood shift before anyone speaks… this is for you.

For years, I thought that level of awareness was just part of being strong.

I could sense tension across a room.
I could anticipate reactions before they happened.
I could feel Joe’s energy shift without even turning around.

Gift? Absolutely.

Also exhausting.

When you live in that state long enough, your body stays slightly braced.

Not panicked.
Just ready.

Jaw tight.
Shoulders lifted.
Patience thinner than usual.

That isn’t drama.

That’s a nervous system that never fully clocks out.

It took me time to learn how to engage with energy without absorbing it.

Now when I feel that tightening, I don’t power through.

I soften.

Because awareness doesn’t require tension.

You know that moment when you finally crawl into bed and your body is done… but your brain is hosting a conference?

Agenda items include:

• That email you forgot
• Something you said three days ago
• A future conversation that hasn’t happened
• Whether you should reorganize the pantry

Meanwhile, your body is like, can we please sleep.

In this season of life, hormone shifts can make your stress response a little louder. Estrogen helps support calm, so when it fluctuates, the nervous system can stay on alert longer.

So, it makes sense that you can feel exhausted and wired at the same time.

Not dramatic.
Not weak.
Just a very responsible woman with a very loyal nervous system.

One thing that has helped me? Yoga nidra.

It’s basically a gentle way of telling your body, the tiger is not real, you may stand down now.

And surprisingly… it listens.

If your mind loves overtime at night, you’re not alone.
