Preparing for PostPartum care because the 4th Trimester is just as important.
✨POSTPARTUM PLANNING✨
I know, I know. Self care is a buzz work. As my wonderful client said in a Ted Talk, I know many of you just did a hard eye roll.
But what does self care look like after birthing a baby?
It’s actually MUCH more simple than in normal day-to-day for those of us with the luxury of maternity leave.
We just have to prioritize it and be ok with making self care our full time job.
Yes, we have to take care of of the baby. But you can bet your sleep deprived ass that if your needs aren’t met, it’s going to be crazy hard to take care of that baby.
Some examples of postpartum self care:
✨MEDICAL CARE - your body just went through something crazy and, unfortunately, the US medical system is not going to go out of its way to take care of you. So you have to make the time and advocate for your needs. Go to your provider, see a pelvic floor pt, get a massage, go to the chiropractor. It’s worth it. You’re worth it.
✨EMOTIONAL CARE - emotions in the first few weeks postpartum are freaking WILD! My best advice is to simply ride the emotional wave. But also to surround yourself with safe people who can genuinely hold those emotions with you. Whether that’s family, friends, a doula, a mental health therapist, or your partner, it’s a crucial role. Postpartum can be overwhelming and lonely, and your emotions are valid.
✨SOCIAL CARE- have a social plan in place. This might be sitting outside with a trusted friend drinking tea. Or planning a zoom call with far away friends. Or scheduling a meal train the allows for short visits when you feel up to it. We are social creatures but it can be hard in that postpartum window. So plan ahead!
✨PHYSICAL CARE- how are you going to heal your body? How are you going move your body? How are you going to nourish your body? How are you going to love your body? It’s done some pretty incredible work and deserves all the care in the world.
What self care items would you add to the list?
