Recent changes in coding for claims will significantly limit coverage for families - resulting in much more frequent patient responsibilities (deductible, copays and coinsurances). See actions to take below.

➡️ Anyone impacted by changes to Aetna coverage (IBCLCs and patients) - Read and sign the petition (link on post).

➡️ IBCLCs - send a letter to the Aetna Executive Team to educate them on how coding changes are impacting you and your patients. Thank you to for leading the way - her letter is a great blueprint for writing your own. PM me and I’ll share.

➡️ Anyone - check out the insurance coverage page on my website for more info.

Thank you so much to for the shoutout to my writing on oral/body tension in their excellent episode on oral tension.

As I write on my site (link in bio, then go to resources, then go to lactation and feeding) - the uterus is a tight place and birth is a bumpy ride! All babies need time for what I call “de-uterizing” - gentle oral/body exercises and massages (also called “bodywork”) go a long way to helping a baby in the 4th trimester. There are so many ways to help your baby at home, and working with a gentle infant bodyworker (chiropractor, PT, OT, Osteopath, and more) can be an excellent part as well.

From my link - go to my resource pages to find writings on oral/body tension, ties, and MANY oral/body exercises. Also on my site I list local referrals for professional bodywork.

If feeding issues are from tight muscles, taking time for de-uterizing will make a big difference. Even if the baby is tied, bodywork first will help you and your baby prep for a better assessment, procedure, and healing.

Online lactation classes can be a good option for getting ready for feeding your baby, but did you know that those “free” classes that come with your pump will likely bill your insurance company,? This may use up some or all of your lactation coverage - leaving you with low or no coverage after the baby arrives!

IBCLCs provide extensive prenatal help - in one very comprehensive session I cover lactation and infant feeding, including knowing if baby is getting enough milk, latch techniques, breastfeeding positions, pumping and fl**ge fitting, bottle feeding, engorgement, hand expression and so much more. And the visit is tailored to your story - your health history and feeding goals.
