Sonia Mistry Wellness Maternal health coach. I help pregnant mamas feel empowered.
Hi! Thanks for stopping by. I am a mother of 2 girls and 2 dogs.

I have a background and degree in occupational therapy. I really believe that motherhood is a special time, especially for first time moms. Your body goes through lots of changes giving you all the feels including excitement and anxiety. New moms need to be supported, educated and empowered so they can make informed choices throughout their birth experience and into the postpartum period. I have developed an online program called the Empowered Mama Method for New Moms.

Happy International Women's Day! 💐

"A woman in harmony with her spirit is like a river flowing. She goes where she will without pretense and arrives at her destination prepared to be herself and only herself."

I am a day late for Valentine's Day, but love positive affirmations, so I thought I would share this. When you are pregnant or a new mom, it's important to remember these and remind yourself. You can say these daily to yourself, and it's even more powerful if you look in the mirror when saying them. You can change the "you" to "I".

I am loved.
I am beautiful.
I am positive.
I am enough.

Your baby does not need a "perfect" mom. Your baby needs a whole mom who is present and attentive. You can't be that new mom if you feel broken, worn out, embarrassed, or not good enough. I wish I had figured this out sooner and focused more on building myself up instead of killing myself in baby boot camps trying to lose the post baby weight, dieting, feeling not good enough, and waiting for someone to build me up. Be present. Your baby needs you, and you deserve to feel whole and love yourself. ❤️

Repeat these affirmations daily until you feel them and believe them.

The importance of treating yourself is underestimated. This year, my dad planned a family trip to Mexico, and I am lucky and blessed to be celebrating my birthday here. I had the best day yesterday full of sunshine, family, cakes, mimosas, and surprises.

In today's world, we are go, go, go with so much busyness. Take a step back and celebrate you. Celebrate how far you have come. Celebrate new motherhood and this new step in your life. Even if it is quiet moments, taking a bath or shower alone. Having a meal in peace. Dressing up just because. Or treating yourself to your favourite meal or snack.

Don't feel guilty. Celebrate yourself! 🥳 You and your body have and are doing amazing things! ✨️

This quote is spot on . I have met some women who are so excited and caught up with their pregnancy, accumulating items for their baby, and nesting, that they don't give thought to changes that may occur in their life after having their baby. They may feel angry, upset, or resentful when their lives change after having a baby. I don't mean any negativity towards them. It is easy to get excited in preparation for your baby's arrival! I know I did.

I think it's important to look ahead. Evaluate your current lifestyle and what is important to you right now before your baby arrives. Are you someone who loves your freedom? Are you spontaneous? Do you enjoy being able to plan an outing and leave your house quickly? Can you stay at home for longer periods of time? Do you need to be around others a lot? Can you spend prolonged periods of time alone?

I know these questions may sound silly, but girl, you are in for a rude awakening if you haven't thought about these things. When you have a new baby, you may not be able to leave your house (depending on how your baby is doing). You may have to say no to social events, outings, and fun things that you were used to doing. If your partner has to return to work, will you be ok home alone with a new baby? What if it is winter and cold and gray outside? Do you have others who could support you? Believe me, there is no getting out of the door quickly when you have a new baby. So many things to pack and bring with you!

All of these are important things to think about. Put a plan in place for yourself. And most of all, give yourself grace. Having your first baby and transitioning to motherhood is HUGE and there is a massive learning curve and shift in your priorities.

While you may lose some of your freedom, you gain invaluable growth and new experiences. And after a little while, you may be able to return to the "old you".

“All the eggs a woman will ever carry form in her ovaries while she is a four-month-old fetus in the womb of her mother.

This means our cellular life as an egg begins in the womb of our grandmother.

Each of us spent five months in our grandmother's womb, and she in turn formed in the womb of her grandmother.

We vibrate to the rhythm of our mother's blood before she herself is born, and this pulse is the thread of blood that runs all the way back through the grandmothers to the first mother.”

It's the resurgence of . I haven't been doing them for a long time. Today's Myth Monday is about Blue Monday. Blue Monday is usually the third Monday of January and is considered the most depressing day of the year. This day came about based on cold winter weather, people feeling sad post holidays, and possible debt post holidays.

While it is just a trivial name for a random day, there is some truth to it. Especially in climates where it is darker, grayer, and colder during winter, people tend to feel more down.

I know I am feeling it in Toronto. It has been exceptionally cold, gray, and windy for the past week. There has been limited sun. I do not feel as motivated as I feel in spring or summer, and it really takes a lot to be social on a cold, dark evening.

When you are pregnant or a new mom with a baby at home, winter can be especially challenging. You have to bundle up to go outside, you need to get a new winter coat to accomodate your growing belly, and you have to be more careful walking outside in case it is slippery. If you have a new baby, you have to do all of this and bundle your little one, and cover their car seat to protect them from the cold!

Although it may seem more challenging in winter, and you may feel more isolated, it is important to maintain contact with others. You can call them, face time them, invite them over, or meet up with them. Don't be alone!

If you are feeling down, talk to someone or seek professional help. You can get help for depression, anxiety, seasonal affective disorder, or if you are feeling lonely or isolated.

Wishing you brighter days ahead.

Wowza, I can't believe it is the last day of 2023. Where did this year go? 2024 here we come - we are ready!!

As I reflect on 2023, I am pulling this inspo from . The last day of the year is a great time to reflect and see if there is anything you would like to change, do differently, or something new you would like to do in the upcoming year. I do not believe in setting new year's resolutions for the year, as they are usually short lived. I like to come up with a theme for the upcoming year. This theme by looks like a good place to start for 2024 - radical self-love. What if we stop "trying" and just be.

As a newly pregnant mom or a new mom, what if we stop beating ourselves up, stop trying to be like the new mom we see on Instagram, stop trying the new method to get our baby to sleep through the night, stop watching Tik Tok to get make up and hair tips... and instead just breathe... just be.

Take a step back and look at yourself, your baby, and life, as if you are an observer. How can you create more space for yourself in 2024? How can you make your day run more smoothly in 2024? Is there anything that you need to outsource in 2024 that could give you back some time? Is there anyone that you can ask for help?

I have said it before, but I will say it again - follow your intuition. Everyone has it. It's that feeling in your tummy when you know that something feels wrong or right. What does your baby need? How can you be more present? What do you need? Talk to your partner and make a plan.

Here's wishing you an amazing 2024 full of self-love and mother's intuition. ❤️🌠
