Here is another success story I'm proud to share! A recent client came to me after her doctor was hesitant to complete the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) application. I prepared her application and worked with her doctor to clarify the requirements. The result? A completed application and a successful approval!

I'm passionate about helping clients overcome these hurdles. This success story is a testament to the importance of expert guidance.

If you're approved for the DTC and need the Federal and Provincial disability amounts for the past ten years, to either claim (or confirm) or transfer disability tax credits, the amounts are listed here.

Disclaimer: The amounts listed are the base amounts. These are not the actual amounts you will receive. It's the amount you input into your tax return, which is used to calculate the refund you actually receive. Typically, you receive 15% of the federal amount and anywhere from 5.05% (Ontario) to 10.8% (Alberta) of the provincial amount.

We recently had a question asking which medical practitioners can sign the Disability Tax Credit Application form. The answer is the CRA has expanded the list of qualified practitioners over the years, and now includes specialists and nurse practitioners, among others.

It's important for individuals applying for the DTC to consult with the appropriate medical practitioner based on the nature of their condition.

One benefit of getting approved for the disability tax credit that is often overlooked is the Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP). The RDSP Bond and Grant program is something you do not want to overlook. Here's a brief overview of the bonds and grants.

Canada Disability Savings Grant (CDSG): The CDSG matches contributions made to the RDSP, with the matching rate depending on the beneficiary’s family income and contribution level. On the first $500 contributed, the government will provide $1,500 (3 to 1 contribution). On the next $1,000, the government will provide an additional $2,000 (2 to 1 contribution). That’s a total of $5,000 from a $1,500 contribution, every year. The grant can be received up to a lifetime maximum of $70,000.

Canada Disability Savings Bond (CDSB): The CDSB is available for individuals with lower family incomes. It provides a fixed amount of money annually into the RDSP, even if no contributions are made. The amount provided is $1,000 per year. The lifetime maximum for the CDSB is $20,000.
