Think PPIs Will Solve Your Reflux? Think Again!

One of the biggest misconceptions about GERD and LPR is that PPIs (proton pump inhibitors) are the ultimate fix. The truth? PPIs only reduce acid—they don’t address the root causes like:

Pepsin, the enzyme responsible for throat irritation and inflammation.
LES dysfunction, which allows reflux to happen in the first place.

That’s why so many people stay on medication but still struggle with reflux symptoms.

In my 3-Week Reflux Program, you’ll learn how to strengthen the LES, neutralize pepsin, and heal your digestive system with proven natural solutions.

Take back control and finally feel the relief you’ve been waiting for.

Good digestion is the key to better health, and Ayurveda offers powerful yet simple ways to keep your Agni (digestive fire) strong.

Here are some habits—some well-known, some unexpected—to help you improve digestion naturally:
Tongue scraping every morning – Removes toxins (Ama) from the tongue and signals the digestive system to wake up.
Start your day with warm lemon water – This wakes up digestion and gently stimulates Agni. (not recommended for those with LPR)
Eat your biggest meal at lunchtime – Your digestion is strongest when the sun is at its peak, so this is the best time for heavier foods.
Avoid drinking cold water with meals – Ice-cold drinks weaken Agni and slow digestion. Opt for warm or room-temperature water instead.
Chew your food thoroughly – Digestion starts in the mouth. The better you chew, the less work your stomach has to do.
Eat in a calm environment – Avoid distractions like screens or stressful conversations while eating. A relaxed mind supports a strong digestive fire.
Sip ginger tea before meals – Fresh ginger tea can stoke your digestive fire and prepare your stomach for food.
Follow a regular eating schedule – Eating at the same times each day trains your body to digest more efficiently.
Avoid overeating – Stop eating when you’re about 80% full to give your stomach space to properly break down food.
Walk for 5-10 minutes after meals – A gentle stroll aids digestion and prevents sluggishness.
Practice deep breathing & stress management – Stress weakens Agni, so techniques like deep breathing, yoga, or meditation can help keep digestion strong.
Avoid mixing raw and cooked foods in the same meal – Ayurveda teaches that different digestive processes are needed for raw vs. cooked foods, which can lead to sluggish digestion when combined.
Eat with your hands (when possible!) – Ayurvedic wisdom suggests that eating with your hands connects you more deeply to your food, signals digestion to begin, and helps you eat more mindfully.

Which of these are you excited to try? Let me know in the comments!

What’s Really Causing Your Reflux Symptoms?

Reflux isn’t just about acid. If you’re tired of managing symptoms like burning pain or constant throat clearing, it’s time to look deeper.

Here’s what many people don’t know:

✅ The LES (lower esophageal sphincter) might not be working as it should, allowing reflux to happen.
✅ The enzyme pepsin causes damage when it travels to your throat.
✅ PPIs and antacids only reduce acid—they don’t address the root causes like LES dysfunction or pepsin.

My 3-Week Reflux Program is here to guide you through improving the underlying issues, not just masking symptoms. We’ll explore how diet, stress, and lifestyle changes can bring lasting relief.

Stop managing symptoms—let’s work on solutions.

Healing GERD or LPR isn’t just about changing your diet or taking supplements—it’s a process of transformation that happens in stages. Understanding this can help you stay on track when things get tough.

1️⃣ Motivation – The Catalyst for Change
Every transformation starts with motivation—something that pushes you to take action.
• Maybe you’re tired of the burning, hoarseness, or bloating.
• Maybe you’ve realized that medications aren’t fixing the root cause.
• Or maybe you just want to enjoy food again without fear of reflux.
This motivation gets you started, but motivation alone doesn’t last—especially when symptoms improve or progress slows.

2️⃣ Contemplation – The Mental Tug-of-War
Once motivation fades, you start questioning:
• Do I really want to keep doing this?
• Is the effort worth it?
• What if I plateau? What if this doesn’t work?
This is the critical turning point—where many people either give up or push forward.

3️⃣ Commitment – Going “All In”
If you decide to fully commit, you break free from the cycle of starting and stopping.
• You stop looking for quick fixes and focus on long-term healing.
• You realize that progress isn’t always linear—but small, consistent actions add up.

And once you reach your goal? The process begins again—not because you failed, but because transformation is ongoing.

Where Are YOU on the Wheel of Transformation?

Do you experience trouble swallowing?

Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) can be a sign of poor vagal tone. The vagus nerve plays a crucial role in coordinating the muscles involved in swallowing, so when vagal function is impaired, it can lead to:

🔹 Delayed or uncoordinated swallowing – Food or liquids may feel like they’re getting stuck.
🔹 Weakened esophageal motility – The esophagus doesn’t contract properly to push food down.
🔹 Reduced LES function – A weak lower esophageal sphincter can contribute to reflux, further irritating the esophagus.
🔹 Increased throat tension – Poor vagal tone can cause tightness or spasms in the throat.

Dysphagia is often seen in LPR sufferers because poor vagus nerve function affects both digestion and throat coordination. Stimulating the vagus nerve through deep breathing, humming, gargling, or even swallowing exercises can help improve symptoms.

Have you experienced dysphagia with reflux? If so, strengthening the vagus nerve may be an important part of your healing process!

When I was dealing with numerous digestive issues, I found that I was often unable to do things I enjoyed like riding my bike due to my fatigue, headaches and acidity.

This left me feeling like I was missing out and being a miserable partner.

I finally got to a point where I decided I was not going to let my digestive issues stop me from enjoying my summer and that’s when I made some serious changes…

Once I got really clear about what was important to me, what I was currently missing out on... I was able to make the necessary changes that I needed to put heartburn behind me and get back to doing the things I wanted to do.

It wasn’t always easy and I certainly did not make perfect progress but…

I made the commitment to myself and got the information and accountability I needed.

This allowed me to move poor digestion from being front-and-centre of my life to the background where it was much more manageable and less intrusive.

So what is heartburn stopping you from doing in life? If you were no longer in pain, what would you be doing that you are currently not able to do? Share your big dream below!

01/06/2025

If you struggle with constant throat clearing or excess mucus caused by reflux or LPR, staying hydrated is one of the simplest yet most effective steps you can take to feel better. Here's why hydration matters and how to make it part of your healing journey:

Why Hydration is Crucial
🔹 Thins Mucus: Proper hydration helps thin out thick mucus, making it easier to clear from your throat.
🔹 Supports Mucosal Health: Drinking enough fluids keeps your throat and nasal passages moist, reducing irritation from reflux.
🔹 Flushes Irritants: Staying hydrated helps wash away irritants like stomach acid residue that can linger in your throat.

How to Stay Hydrated
1️⃣ Drink More Water: Aim for at least 8–10 glasses of water daily. Sip slowly throughout the day to avoid overloading your stomach.
2️⃣ Hydrate with Herbal Teas: Soothing options like chamomile or ginger tea can hydrate and calm inflammation.
3️⃣ Use a Humidifier: Dry air can worsen throat irritation and mucus buildup. A humidifier adds moisture to the air, keeping your nasal and throat passages hydrated.
4️⃣ Rinse Your Nasal Passages: Try a saline spray or neti pot to hydrate and clear your nasal passages, reducing post-nasal drip.

Tips to Avoid Dehydration Triggers
Limit caffeine and alcohol, which can dehydrate and irritate your throat.
Pair each caffeinated drink with an extra glass of water to balance it out.

By prioritizing hydration—both inside and out—you can take a big step toward reducing throat clearing and soothing the discomfort caused by LPR.

Have you noticed a difference when you focus on staying hydrated? Share your experiences or tips in the comments below!
