This Labor Day, as you take a well-deserved break from the daily grind, remember that your greatest investment is in yourself.

Using this day to recharge isn't a luxury; it's a strategic move that pays dividends when you return to work. The science is clear on why taking time for your health is the smartest move you can make:

Improved Performance: A study presented to the American College of Sports Medicine found that workers who exercised for 30–60 minutes reported an average performance boost of 15%.

Better Time Management: In the same study, 60% of employees said their time management skills and ability to meet deadlines improved on the days they exercised.

Reduced Stress: A workout is one of the most effective ways to combat stress and reset your mind, helping you make better decisions.

This Labor Day, honor your hard work by investing in your well-being. Use this day off to move your body—take a walk, hit the gym, or simply spend 20 minutes outside to reset your mind. It’s the ultimate way to recharge so you can come back sharper, more focused, and ready to tackle anything.

Want to crush your workday? Exercise.

Like many of us, my client—a busy mom of two and a business owner—knew she had to make time for her health but was overwhelmed by her schedule. She knew a generic gym routine wouldn't work.

We didn't just give her a workout plan. We built a system tailored for her life, focusing on consistency and sustainable habits.

Here's how we did it:

~ Early Morning Commitment: We scheduled early morning workouts 3x/week. It's a commitment for me, but I show up for her because she shows up for herself.

~ Sustainable Habits: She stopped late-night snacking and eating out every day, replacing those habits with healthier choices that gave her more energy.

~ Personalized Approach: Ensured every session was challenging yet enjoyable, providing the energy she needed to tackle her day.

The incredible result? She's lost 40 lbs., dropped several dress sizes, and as an unexpected bonus, she now has a beautiful, strong back and neckline that she loves to show off. This is proof that you don't just "find" time for fitness—you create a powerful transformation, inside and out, by making it a priority. She's living proof that you don't just "find" time for fitness—you create more energy and productivity by making it a priority.

What small step can you take today to boost your productivity?

Habit is persistence in practice.

When my client Debbie first started personal training with me, her goal was simple: get into a consistent routine. We didn't aim for five days a week. We focused on building a foundation of one or two dedicated sessions together, making sure she showed up and felt successful.

Over time, as that routine became a non-negotiable part of her week, Debbie's confidence grew. She started adding an additional day where she followed a specific workout program I designed for her, independently building on the momentum we had created.

Her success wasn't about a sudden burst of willpower. It was about:

~ Starting small: Committing to a manageable routine first.

~ Building consistency: Focusing on showing up, even when it wasn't perfect.

~ Leveraging momentum: Using the established habit as a launchpad for more.

The key is to start, be persistent in that practice, and the rest will follow.

If you're feeling stuck with a habit, you're not alone.

Take the daily lunch routine. You want to drink less soda, but that Coke is always within arm's reach, and the healthier choice feels like work.

You can't solve an environmental problem with sheer willpower. The truth is, the battle isn't with your discipline—it's with your environment.

The solution isn't to push harder. It's to build a system where the easy choice is the healthy choice.

Here's how to fix it:

~ Make the unhealthy choice invisible and difficult. Stop buying the Coke. If it's not in your house, you can't drink it.

~ Make the healthy choice obvious and easy. Buy a case of sparkling water or flavored seltzer and place it on the top shelf of your fridge, right at eye level. Keep a filled water bottle on your desk at all times.

This isn't about making a difficult resolution. It's about creating a habit loop where your environment is rigged for your success.

Stop fighting your environment. Start designing it.

Willpower is not the answer.

Constantly battling yourself with willpower is exhausting and unsustainable. The truth is, relying on willpower alone is a strategy designed for failure.

You don't need more willpower. You need a better plan.

Instead of fighting against yourself, create an environment that supports you.

Make healthy choices easier.

Make them more automatic.

Think small, think consistent.

Stop trying to force yourself into a new habit. Start making that habit the most obvious and simple choice. Be patient with yourself as you build these new, supportive pathways. This is how you make lasting change.

Ready to stop the battle?

Stretching: Friend or Foe? 🤔 Okay, not really a foe, but there are definitely some myths out there! The biggest one? That any stretching at any time is always good. Not quite!

The type of stretching and when you do it matters for safety and effectiveness.

Quick Myth Busting:

Myth: Always static stretch before exercise.
Reality: Dynamic movements are better pre-workout to prime muscles. Static stretching after exercise, or on rest days, improves flexibility.

Myth: Stretching prevents all soreness.
Reality: It helps mobility, but soreness is complex and involves more than just stretching.

Myth: Push through pain.
Reality: Stretching should feel like a gentle pull, not pain. Listen to your body!

My goal is to help you move freely and feel great. What's your biggest question about stretching? Let's clear it up! 👇

It's National Donut Day. Did you know that donuts were my pregnancy food craving?? Fact!

Chances are I will have a donut today so allow me to be real about food. Even as a personal trainer and nutrition coach, my relationship with eating is complicated. Having a chronic skin condition though, has taught me to be more intentional with my nutrition choices overall. However, food brings people together, right? I love to reconnect and decompress with my girlfriends during happy hour (and yes, bar food) just as much as anyone.

That's why when someone recently joked, 'This is Gigi-approved!' pointing to a salad, and then 'This is NOT Gigi-approved!' eyeing their fries, I had to laugh. Because in my world, it's ALL Gigi-approved!

My philosophy is rooted in balance, not restriction. It's about finding joy in nourishing your body, understanding that every meal doesn't have to be 'perfect,' and giving yourself permission to enjoy treats mindfully. Calorie deprivation isn't a sustainable path to health or happiness, especially for busy women juggling life's demands.

As many of you know, I have eczema and it's a bit of a roller coaster. It's taught me to love whole foods. That said, I generally eat everything – salads, treats, and everything in between but with moderation and an intention to not overindulge and to focus on filling myself on nutrient-dense foods first. But as you can see, I don't hard restrict myself. It's about living, learning, and fueling your incredible journey. What's one mindset shift you've made about food lately? Share your insights! 👇

This is what it looks like when you give yourself permission to be a little wild! 😉

I often hear, "I'm too busy for myself," or "If I take a break, everything falls apart." But the women I see truly thrive – as mothers, partners, and business owners – are the ones who make time for themselves. They know filling their own cup isn't selfish; it's essential.

When you're running on empty, you're less patient, less creative, and frankly, less fun. But when you allow moments of joy, like this spontaneous leap, you recharge your energy, boost your mood, and bring a better version of yourself to everything you do.

I've seen clients who prioritized play and self-care become more present with their kids, more engaged with partners, and even more productive at work. It's not about doing less; it's about doing everything with more intention and energy.

Mantra: My cup, my fuel.

Ever feel overwhelmed by new habits? You're not alone! Sustainable change comes from focusing on small, consistent steps.

Here's wisdom from habit experts to shift your perspective:

1. James Clear: Make it Easy & Obvious
In Atomic Habits, James Clear says make good habits easy to start and obvious to remember. Water bottle on your desk, workout clothes laid out. Reduce friction!

2. B.J. Fogg: Start Tiny & Celebrate!
Dr. B.J. Fogg (Tiny Habits) champions incredibly small steps. "Put on my sneakers" instead of "work out for an hour." Build momentum, not perfection. Celebrate every tiny win! That success wires your brain to repeat the behavior.

3. Charles Duhigg: Identify Cues & Rewards
The Power of Habit introduces the "habit loop": Cue → Routine → Reward. Understand what triggers old habits and what satisfaction you get. Then, substitute a new, healthier routine for the same reward.

For my busy clients, these principles are game-changers. Whether you're trying to consistently fit in movement, eat more mindfully, or carve out time for self-care, it all starts with understanding how habits work.

Okay, confession time! As a personal trainer, I sometimes feel pressure to do all the things flawlessly. And the elusive pull-up? Still my white whale! 🐳 Even strong and healthy, that move challenges me. It's a good reminder: fitness isn't about perfection, but consistent effort.

While impressive feats like pull-ups are great, what truly defines a healthy, functional life as we age? It's often simpler than you think. Here are some proven, research-backed things you should generally be able to do, decade by decade, for good health and functional strength.

In your 40s (like me! 😉):

Brisk 30-min walk: Talk without getting winded. Great for heart health.
Stand on one leg for 10 seconds: Key for balance and fall prevention.
10-15 push-ups (knees or toes): Shows upper body and core strength.
Touch toes (or close): Good hamstring flexibility.
Carry two grocery bags up stairs: Practical daily strength.
In your 50s:

Maintain brisk 30-min walk.
Stand on one leg for 5-8 seconds: Balance remains crucial.
Get up from a chair without hands: Strong lower body and mobility.
Walk up two flights of stairs without pause: Functional leg endurance.
Reach behind head/across body: Good shoulder mobility.
In your 60s+:

Walk comfortably for daily tasks: Safe, independent navigation.
Get up from the floor independently: Vital for strength, balance, independence.
Maintain grip strength: Open jars, carry light items.
Get in/out of car easily: Mobility, lower body strength.
Perform daily activities without significant pain/limitation: Quality of life goal.
These aren't about being an Olympic athlete. They're about maintaining independence, vitality, and enjoying life. My goal as your trainer isn't just about the 'big' moves; it's about helping you feel strong, capable, and confident in your everyday life, for decades to come.
