While me and the Mrs. were honeymooning in Italy we just so happened to go to Florence which has been famous for leather goods since the 1400’s. We went to high end leather boutiques like the amazing Benheart who made shoes for Shaq! and even got to see the leather school which was founded in the 1950’s. While we were there we saw some alligator purses and asked where they source the gator from and they said Louisiana and Mississippi. It’s so wild to go to a completely different country and still find a connection to home. Of course I had to take pictures of it. We also went to Gucci who, fun fact started as a luxury leather goods company.

A lot of ladies go after the name brand bags with the label everyone knows printed on the side or on the buckle in the front and while there is nothing wrong with wanting a designer bag most people don’t realize that a lot of those entry level purses, $1000 and up, are made with very cheap materials and fake leather. If you do want real quality from a name brand you will have to spend upwards of $5,000 for purses and bags made with real leather. I could go on and on about the designer bags and how I have repaired a lot of them because they just dont last and how almost none of them use real exotic hides.
I made the purse pictured below with real quality leather and real alligator on the strap. This purse is 100 percent made by hand and will last for a very long time and would only cost you $400. That’s an absolute deal for what you are paying for compared to a canvas bag with a designers logo printed across the front. Leatherworkers don’t use fake materials and we don’t use cheap materials, we make things that last and items that are well worth what you pay for.
