What feels like a burial is often just an invitation to go sledding.

In therapy, we talk a lot about 'stuckness.' The car in this image represents the plans we made, the control we think we have, and the 'adult' way we try to force our way through life. When the storm hits, we exhaust ourselves trying to dig the car out. We rev the engine. We spin the tires. We panic.

But look to the right.

The sled represents adaptability. It doesn't fight the snow; it uses the snow. It requires gravity (surrender) rather than horsepower (force).

If you are in a season of heavy snow right now-a layoff, a breakup, a burnout-stop trying to dig out the car. The crisis isn't the snow; the crisis is insisting on driving when you are being asked to slide.

What part of your life are you trying to force right now, and what would it look like to grab the sled instead?

So grateful for opportunities like this 💙

Our Clinic Director, Daria Durny, recently visited Mars Elementary School for Career Day to talk with students about what it means to be a therapist and how mental health plays a role in everyday life-even at a young age.

Moments like these remind us why we do this work. It’s not just about sessions in an office-it’s about showing up in our community, sparking curiosity, and helping kids see that talking about feelings, emotions, and mental health is something to be proud of.

Huge thank you to Mars Elementary for the warm welcome and thoughtful conversations. And shoutout to Daria for representing our practice with so much heart. 💬✨

Friendly reminder: Keeping secrets from yourself is a full-time job that doesn't pay well.

As Van der Kolk points out, suppressing our history creates an internal "war" that affects our sleep, our relationships, and our health. The "aha!" moment is often the scariest one, but it’s also where the healing starts.

You don’t have to carry the weight of "knowing" all by yourself. At Ellie Mental Health, we’re big fans of authenticity-even the messy parts. Let’s unpack it together.

Emotionally, we all have our own "internal tides." We have high-energy days, low-power modes, and those weird "in-between" moments where we just feel stuck. Even the ocean takes a break-it’s called Slack Water. It’s that brief, quiet moment where the tide stops moving entirely before it changes direction.

If you’re feeling "slack" today-unproductive, quiet, or just still-that’s not a glitch. It’s biology.

Biologically, your nervous system is a water-based OS. When you’re dehydrated, the "app" starts crashing. You get irritable, foggy, and anxious. Drinking water won’t solve your childhood trauma (that’s what we’re here for), but it does keep your internal ocean from turning into a salt flat.

Fill the bottle. Take the pause. Let yourself ebb and flow. You’re doing better than you think.

Therapy Isn’t Just for “Big” Problems

You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Support can help with everyday stress, relationship challenges, anxiety, or simply wanting to feel more like yourself again. If something feels off, that’s reason enough. 🩵🐘

Progress Doesn’t Have to Be Loud

Growth can look like getting out of bed, setting one boundary, or asking for help. It doesn’t have to be dramatic to be meaningful. Small steps still count! And they add up over time. 🩵🐘

If January Feels Heavy, You’re Not Doing It Wrong

The new year doesn’t come with instant motivation or clarity, and that’s okay. January can feel slow, overwhelming, or just plain exhausting. Wherever you are right now is enough. Support doesn’t require a fresh start. Just a next step. 🩵🐘

🎨✨ AND THE WINNER IS... PAINTING #3! ✨🎨

After a very intense (and highly scientific) voting process, Drawing #3 took the crown 👑 - huge congratulations to Claudia Ardiles, our official Holiday Art Champion!

Thank you to everyone who painted, voted, commented, debated, and probably changed their vote at least once. This was proof that our clinic is not only full of big hearts and great clinicians, but also some seriously artistic talent 🖌️🎄

We’re honestly blown away by the creativity on this team - Bob Ross would be proud. Happy holidays from our wonderfully weird, wildly talented crew! 💙

Therapy isn't just for the tough times... it's for the new times, the old times, the in-between times. It's for growing, healing, and becoming even more you.

Why wait? Take that first step in the next year. Your future self will thank you. 💛
