As we close out February — ❤️ Heart Health Month — I’ve been reflecting on this past season of my life where heart health has a bit more special meaning now.

Last year, I underwent open heart surgery.

What started as a routine visit years ago turned into something life-changing. I walked into Dr. Sagar’s office expecting a normal checkup. He heard and saw something that was alarming. That moment led to an eventual diagnosis: mitral valve prolapse.

After countless tests and the realization that surgery was inevitable, I put my trust in Dr. David Adams, the pioneer behind the mitral valve repair procedure, and the incredible team at The Mount Sinai Hospital. The surgery was deemed a success, and I’m still recovering — stronger, grateful, and humbled.

Wrestling was always in my heart, literally. Ironically, throughout my career, that word followed me in some way, shape, and form. As it turns out...it truly was at the center of it all.

Wrestling at the Westchester County Center before surgery meant everything to me. I needed to "empty the basement" — physically, mentally, emotionally — before facing an even bigger fight.

My faith, my family, and my medical team all carried me through and continue to do so.
