My very wise and smart cousin's post about Fructose...
I shared this information with the group of women doing my 21 Day Sugar Detox and thought it would be great information for all of you too!
FRUCTOSE - it is different from glucose.
If you consumed your fructose only from vegetables and fruits (where it originates) as most people did a century ago, you'd consume about 15 grams per day.
But listen to this...73 grams per day the typical teenager gets from sweetened drinks. And then think of all the other fructose they consume on top of that. UGH!!
In vegetables and fruits, the fructose is mixed in with fiber, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and the beneficial phytonutrients which moderate the stress the fructose causes to the metabolism.
It is the MASSIVE doses that our culture is exposed to that make it dangerous. Your body metabolizes fructose in a much different way from glucose. And the entire process of metabolizing fructose falls on your LIVER.
I could go on and on about fructose metabolism.
Just remember this, the metabolism of fructose by your liver creates a long list of waste products and TOXINS (including uric acid which drives up blood pressure and causes gout), fatty acids which accumulate in your liver and skeletal muscles causing insulin resistance and fatty liver disease, and for the love...consuming fructose is FAT PRODUCING!
