What is a G-tube (or G-Button in the pediatric world) and why might a child need one?

A G-button (gastrostomy tube) is a small feeding tube placed directly into a child’s stomach to provide nutrition, fluids, and medications when they are unable to safely eat or drink by mouth.

Children with swallowing difficulties, neurological conditions, genetic disorders, or chronic illness may require a G-button to ensure they receive proper nutrition and hydration.

With the right education and skilled nursing support, G-button care becomes a safe and manageable part of daily life at home. 💙

PDN is skilled, one-on-one nursing care for children with medical complexity - provided right in the comfort of their home.

PDN nurses perform tracheostomy care, G-tube feedings, medication administration, seizure monitoring, oxygen management, and ongoing clinical assessments throughout every shift - allowing children to remain with their families, maintain their routines, and receive expert care without repeated hospital stays.
