Sacred Space Counseling Center

Sacred Space Counseling Center At Sacred Space Counseling Center, we believe the deepest healing occurs within a context of safety and authentic connection with God, self, and others.

We want to connect and walk alongside you and your family as you grow and ultimately heal. At Sacred Space Counseling Center, we use a variety of ther**eutic modalities (i.e.: sand tray, art, play therapy, traditional therapy, etc.) to meet each client where they are developmentally and emotionally. In the first session, we collaborate with the individual/family to develop a treatment plan to address their individual/family needs. We approach problems from a systemic lens knowing that the individual does not live in a vacuum. The individual's thoughts, feelings, and actions impact his/her family and the other family member's thoughts, feelings, and actions impact the individual. We believe that healing is possible! Within a supportive environment designed to explore emotional patterns, an individual or family can identify those patterns that are working and those patterns that are not working. Once the patterns are identified, the individual or family can develop a plan for change! We charge up to 150 per hour for counseling, and we are willing to figure out a rate that makes counseling feasible for our individual clients. We look forward to hearing from you regarding your individual and/or family needs. Counselor Biographies...

Brandi M. Smith, Ph.D., LPC-S -
Brandi is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board-Approved Supervisor. She holds a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, TX. Dr. Smith has extensively studied interactions within families with a minor diagnosed with Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal (PANDAS). Under the guidance of Dr. Terry Hargrave, Dr. Smith received a Level II Certification in Restoration Therapy. As a Restoration Therapist, she encourages individuals and families to identify long-standing patterns of relational pain, recognize their regulating truth, and take risks to embrace new patterns of relational peace. Dr. Smith utilizes both child-centered and synergetic play therapy techniques to assist young children as they move toward big feelings and learn strategies for self-regulation. Having spent many years counseling child, adolescent, and adult survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, Dr. Smith has extensive experience working with trauma survivors. Beyond that, her clinical training and experience encompass a variety of issues that include: child/parent relational challenges, attachment issues, marital conflict, life transitions, depression, suicidality, anxiety, gender/sexual identity issues, and grief. Before becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor, Dr. Smith was alternatively certified as a Special Education Teacher and worked with individuals and families with seemingly insurmountable challenges. During this time, she learned that within the framework of a supportive relationship, her students and families were able to take risks and begin thinking outside of the box to address their day-to-day challenges. Dr. Smith carries this philosophy into the counseling room. She believes individuals are resilient and can find healing as they feel safe enough to take risks and practice healthier patterns relationally. Heather M. Cawthon, Ph.D., LPC-S, EMDR CIT

Over her career, she has been the clinical director of a non-profit focused on family violence and trauma, directed a team of mobile crisis assessors, and served as the Senior Director of Programs and Clinical Director of a r**e crisis center. Her clinical work has largely revolved around helping children and adults heal from trauma and abuse. She is also certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and is currently an EMDR Consultant-in-Training (CIT). She is an international supervisor and trainer supporting the clinical work of a counseling agency in Asia. I just realized that Dr. Heather Cawthon and I have been on this journey together as co-owners of Sacred Space Counseling Center for the last 10 years. I must first say thank you, Heather, for putting up with my crazy creativity over the years. I am thankful that you sometimes said, “Let’s think about that idea for a bit!”

What started as a venture between two best friends in Irving, TX in the Wells Fargo Tower…shifted to a home-based business for a time during COVID…has now grown to offices in both the DFW area and in Wichita Falls. We are thankful for those of you who have prayed with us and for us over the years. We are thankful for the gifted clinicians that have joined with us to serve our communities. We are thankful for the opportunity to connect daily with individuals and families in vulnerability and authenticity. We are blessed by the students that let us pour into them and learn alongside them. We are thankful to the grace that has been extended to us as we ourselves have grown over these years.

We look forward to the years to come and what God has in store for all of us individually, as families, and as a counseling practice!

This is Lexie! You will be seeing her around the office more.

When Lexie is at our office, she is working. We only wave at her when we see her around the office because we don't want to distract her from the very important work she has to do.

Hi, I am Ann McMullen with Sacred Space Counseling Center. I’m currently a graduate-level intern on a journey toward becoming a play therapist, and I’m filled with both excitement and purpose as I work towards helping people of all ages. My passion lies in using play therapy as a way to connect with others, whether it's children finding their voice through creative expression or adults healing and growing through compassionate, person-centered support.

The more I dive into interpersonal neurobiology, the more I see how profoundly our relationships and experiences shape us — and how healing happens when we truly feel seen and heard. My work is about creating a safe, nurturing space where people can explore their emotions, work through challenges, and reconnect with their true selves.

I believe deeply in the power of connection, empathy, and the ability of each individual to grow and heal at their own pace. It’s an incredible honor to be on this path, and I’m excited for the opportunity to continue learning, growing, and walking alongside those who are ready to take that journey.
