Because people of faith stood united at the Nehemiah Assembly, our local leaders have followed through on another major commitment: The City of Wichita has officially launched a no-cost, low-barrier photo ID program for all residents. 🙌

These IDs are I-9 compliant, meaning they can be used to apply for jobs, housing, and vital services—a game-changer for people experiencing homelessness and many others in our community.

🏥 Effective July 6, Maurice Duggins, MD, FAAFP, will begin serving as Via Christi St. Joseph's Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Duggins has been part of the Via Christi family since 2002, following his role as medical director for a local safety-net clinic in Wichita. For more than two decades, he has served as a faculty member in the Family Medicine Residency Program, helping shape the next generation of healthcare providers.

His leadership experience includes serving as president of the Medical Society of Sedgwick County in 2023, Medical Staff President at Via Christi in 2009 and 2010, and holding positions on the boards of Ascension Via Christi Hospitals Wichita, Inc. and Ascension Via Christi Hospital St. Teresa, Inc.

His decision to step into this new chapter comes with personal meaning. Earlier this year, Dr. Duggins experienced the tragic loss of his daughter, Kiah, a civil rights attorney and passionate advocate.

“It was the fact that I knew that she was so supportive of me, why it was so easy for me to say, ‘Yes, I am still interested in taking this position, taking this challenge on," said Dr. Duggins in a recent interview with the Wichita Business Journal: http://ascn.io/61804TVke

Sheryl Beard, MD, who previously served as CMO for both St. Francis and St. Joseph, will continue in her leadership role as Chief Medical Officer for Via Christi St. Francis. Dr. Duggins begins sharing Chief Medical Officer (CMO) duties on July 6.

Dr. Duggins will primarily support Via Christi St. Joseph, but will work with Sheryl Beard, MD, to share CMO responsibilities at other Via Christi facilities.
