Heidi Anne Marie (Pfeiffer) Van Horn, 86, of Grand Junction, CO, quietly passed away on December 5, 2024, in the presence of family members in Rose Hill, KS.

Heidi was born on November 30, 1938, near Heilbronn Germany, the daughter of Eberhard and Ekaterina (Sauer) Pfeiffer. She was the third of five children and grew up in the shadow of war and its aftermath. Heidi was confirmed in the Lutheran church at age 14, and her schooling concluded with practical nursing and midwife training. Later, her fellowship with American military families eventually led to her immigration to the United States.

Heidi married Theodore Arlington Van Horn on January 19, 1959, in Detroit, MI, and they began their travels together with the military to Arizona, Texas, Germany, and Colorado.

Heidi was a faithful wife, supporting her husband, Ted, through many military moves, including two tours that took her and the family back to her hometown in Germany, and finally, to Colorado. Her gifts of service and hospitality at each duty station not only brought her family to the dining room table, but many servicemen and women as well, to give them a home away from home.
Heidi was a dedicated homemaker, raising four children and fostering several infants and children while the family was living in Colorado Springs, CO.

Heidi loved traveling and camping with the family and attending church and symphony concerts. After all the children had finished high school, Heidi and Ted moved their empty nest to Grand Junction, CO, and became involved with ministries associated with First Presbyterian and Heritage Church. In Grand Junction, Heidi became a fixture of faith and service among her friends and was persistent in encouraging those around her to love and honor God. From an early age, and through all her days, she was aware of God’s grace in her life and her trust in Him.

Heidi departed this life on December 5, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eberhard and Ekaterina; her sister, Wiltrude and brother-in-law, and John Smart; her brother, Ernst Ludwig Pfeiffer.

Heidi is survived by her brothers, Werner and Rolf Pfeiffer and their spouses, and by her four children and their spouses: Kathy and Tom Carbaugh, Beverly and Bill Eades, (Jon) David and Victoria Van Horn, and Edward and Kristie Van Horn. She's also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A memorial service for her will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Heritage Church, 2403 N 12th St, Grand Junction, CO 81501, at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Heritage Church, Grand Junction, for missions, or to First Presbyterian Church, Grand Junction, for the pipe organ.
