My Dandelion Smoothie Experiment: My Take & What Iâd Tweak Next Time
When I got home from work yesterday, I spotted some dandelions in the yard and knew I had to use them. So, I picked a few leaves, gave them a good wash, and set them aside for my morning smoothie. Dandelion greens are packed with vitamins and minerals, and I love experimenting with whatever I have on hand.

I rarely follow a recipe exactly (itâs more of a loose guideline situation), so when someone asked me for one yesterday evening, I had to piece together what I actually did this morning. Hereâs the version I madeâplus my notes on what Iâd tweak next time.
--My Off-the-Cuff Berry Smoothie--
*About 16 oz frozen mixed berries (measured by volume, not weight)
*â
to ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
*2 tsp whole flax seeds
*½ tsp cardamom powder (I love cardamom!)
*About 1 tbsp powdered Solomonâs Seal root (I added this for my sore, tight jointsâprobably contributed a little to the bitterness.)
*A handful of dandelion leaves (probably about ž cup whole leaves)
*About ½ cup milk (could have used a little more)
*2 tsp honey
I blended this twice in my Ninja smoothie maker (more on that below). It turned out a little bitter, and the berries were a bit weak. I meant to throw in part of a banana but totally forgot.
--What Iâd Change Next Time--
*Chop the dandelion leaves and use a little lessâmaybe about ½ cup chopped so they blend better.
*Increase the milk to ž cup to help it mix more easily.
*Sweeten it up with 2 tsp licorice root powder or a bit more honey.
*Add ½ a large bananaâIâve learned from experience that a banana not only sweetens the smoothie but also makes the berries taste more vibrant.
My Ninja smoothie maker has a setting that blends in burstsâstarting and stopping a few times before doing a final long blend. It helps everything mix well, but I still had a few dandelion leaves that didnât fully break down.
So there you goâmy smoothie experiment! If you try something similar, let me know what you tweak. Do you have a go-to smoothie combo? Iâd love to hear!
