This month while we focus on the struggles and achievements Black people have made throughout history and continue doing today, we would like to shed light on a silent struggle in Black communities, heart disease. Did you know Black Americans are 30% more likely to die of heart disease than White Americans? The good news is heart disease can often be prevented. Our providers suggest living a healthy lifestyle without to***co, increased exercise and healthy food choices will improve heart health. There are some situations someone may still need medication. It is important to have your blood pressure checked by your healthcare provider and discuss how to decrease your risk of heart disease. If you are in need of a health care provider you can call the KU Wichita Center for Healthcare at 316-293-2622.
