As we wrap up Nurses Week, we’re proud to celebrate the nursing leaders at Wesley Healthcare who support our nurses and help shape exceptional patient-centered care across our hospitals.

For more than 100 years, Wesley Healthcare has cared for families in Wichita, across Kansas and in neighboring states. Guided by compassionate care and healthier tomorrows, our more than 3,000 colleagues supported more than 390,000 patient encounters and 30,000 admissions in 2022.

We’re thankful for the leadership, encouragement and commitment our nursing leaders bring to our teams, our patients and our community every day.

A remarkable recovery starts with expert care.

After a traumatic sledding accident, 16-year-old Sawyer was rushed to Wesley Children’s Hospital with life-threatening head injuries. His care included emergency stabilization, treatment in the pediatric intensive care unit, surgery and continued recovery support from physical, occupational and speech therapy teams.

Stories like Sawyer’s reflect the power of coordinated trauma care and the expertise of the colleagues who show up for patients and families during their hardest moments.

Now, Sawyer is back in school, continuing therapy and working toward the activities he loves most!

Thank you to Wichita Mom for sharing:

When the unexpected happens, you can count on Wesley Healthcare to be here for you.

💙💚 Living donation and registered organ donation give hope to thousands of people waiting for lifesaving transplants. Across our broader HCA Healthcare network of care, our hospitals performed 1,324 organ transplants last year — a reflection of the impact donation can have. At Wesley Healthcare in 2024, we had 40 organ donor heroes and 90 tissue donors, resulting in 123 life-saving organs transplanted.

If you’re thinking about organ donation, know the facts and learn how to join your state’s donor registry at https://bit.ly/4td63C8, where you can find more information on what it means to say “yes” to donation, or visit the Midwest Transplant Network at https://mwtn.org to join the registry.

At Wesley Medical Center, we are committed to improving maternal health by listening, educating and connecting people with the care they need.

During Black Maternal Health Week this month, Andrea Anderson, who leads Wesley’s Birth Equity Task Force, underscores why this work matters: "A Black mom is two to three times more likely to die due to health concerns during their pregnancy, and even up to 12 weeks after they deliver."

That is why our labor and delivery teams are focused on helping people recognize warning signs, ask questions and feel supported throughout pregnancy and postpartum care. "We want people to know that we want you to come and see us," Anderson said. "We want to talk about things. We want you to know what a health crisis looks like."

Wesley is proud to support at-risk maternal health through compassionate care, trusted conversations and teams dedicated to showing up for every family.

In the U.S., is more common than many people realize. If you’re facing infertility, you’re not alone – and support matters. Our caregivers are here to help you understand your options and take the next step with confidence. Start by talking with an OB-GYN: https://bit.ly/3QjtPOY

It’s normal to feel angry, guilty, anxious, depressed or overwhelmed during this time, and your feelings are valid. Along with the coping mechanisms shown here, you may want to try:

🌿Calming daily rituals (journaling, reflection, meditation or time in nature)
🚶‍♀️Gentle movement (walking, stretching or yoga)
✨Celebrating small wins (making an appointment, asking for help or getting through a hard day)

Starting fertility treatment is a major step when you are trying to conceive — one that's often filled with a mix of hope, stress and uncertainty. While there can be a lot of focus on the physical aspect of fertility treatment, the emotional experience deserves just as much attention.

Understanding what you can expect can help you feel more prepared as you navigate this challenging process: https://bit.ly/3OCrldT

If you recently welcomed a new baby, congratulations! 👶 This is an exciting time – and your recovery is an important part of the journey. After giving birth, your body needs time to heal. If you had a delivery (C-section), recovery may take a little longer and require extra care.

Here, Dr. Cindy Celnik, chief medical officer for HCA Healthcare Women’s Services, shares what you can expect in the weeks ahead and helpful tips to support your healing.

While you are recovering, seek emergency care if you experience severe pain, fever, heavy bleeding or other concerning symptoms.
