Our July "Spotlight Clinician" is Monique Bell, LCMFT!
Who/What inspired you to become a therapist?
-"When I was young my friends and family would tell me all the time that I should be a therapist because I was a great listener. I decided to take a former supervisor's advice and explore the fields of sociology and psychology. One particular class that stood out to me was a sociology class called Marriage and Family. The course material and class stirred up a passion within me that set me on a different course. I decided that I would go ahead and pursue a Masters in Family Therapy at Friends University and have been on a wonderful journey every since."
What are your specialties?
-"Working with individuals, couples, and families on a variety of concerns; My focus is on helping family members who may be suffering from symptoms of trauma and PTSD that may be negatively impacting their ability to have strong and healthy relationships at home, work, and other settings. I also have training in EMDR, TFCBT, and in various integrative approaches to working with couples with infidelity, lack of connection, communication problems, and loss of sexual desire."
What was your career before becoming a therapist?
- "I worked in prevention at the Mental Health Association facilitating social skills group within the local school district. I also worked in corrections as a juvenile probation officer working with adolescents and their families."
What do you enjoy doing on your time off?
-I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. My love language is quality time so I value my connection with friends and family. We love to have couples nights out, family game night, travel, and visit my family and friends in my home town Denver, Colorado. "
