The Mirror Lawrence Homeless Response Team (HRT) is a dedicated group committed to providing support and services to the homeless community. They visit camp sites, delivering water, snacks, popsicles, NARCAN, and in some cases, pet food for furry companions at the camp sites. Mirror HRT, in conjunction with Lawrence’s HRT, provides case management services, assessments, and referrals for treatment services to any on of Mirror’s treatment facilities.

On one particular day, HRT located a client that had previously diverted from services but was now ready to begin their recovery journey. HRT aided this individual in gathering their belongings and took them to a residential facility for services, where they checked in. The experience was not only heart-warming but lifesaving. HRT’s dedication to this individual not only helped them begin their recovery, but also removed them from an environment of trauma, domestic abuse, and substance use.

HRT is truly making an impact in the Lawrence area and surrounding communities. Their commitment is relentless, enduring all weather and terrain conditions to deliver HOPE for those in need.

Today is Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day, we remember and honor the lives lost to overdoses involving illegally made fentanyl.

This week on the Reentry Reframed podcast, host and Mirror Vice President Melissa Goodman spoke with Amber Saale-Burger, co-founder of Kaylee's Dad is Mad & TK Fights Fentanyl. After their tragic loss of their daughter to Fentanyl poisoning, Amber and her husband Max began to bring education, mental health support, and harm reduction to the Topeka, KS area. It is officially season! 🎒✏️

Our Prevention Team along with STAND KS members and Harvey County D-FY members have been very busy the last few weeks presenting to parents and providing information to kids as they prepare to return for another school year. From partnering with area high schools and providing educational information for parents and school personnel, to strategic planning to maximize community impact this year, they have done it all!

Mirror is wishing all students, faculty, and many of our own staff a safe and healthy school year.

Our maintenance team, led by newly appointed Clint McBroom, recently took a break from their busy schedule to connect, laugh, and plan for the upcoming year! 📅

The team met in Newton, visiting local favorites Billy Sims for lunch and Norm’s for a coffee. The team was able to spend some time learning more about one another and sharing some good laughs.

Starting tomorrow, our Topeka RRC and Work for Success offices will be starting a clothing drive! 🧦🚘

This clothing drive will run for ONE MONTH, through September 15th. We will only be accepting donations of NEW socks and underwear. Any and all ADULT men and women's sizes.

Our second August Staff Spotlight is Cody Cokeley from Reflections Recovery Center.

Cody’s supervisor describes him as a fierce advocate for clients, helping them to gain access to the services that are needed for them. He jumps in to fill gaps, whether helping out a coworker or bridging a gap for clients. “We are incredibly grateful to have Cody on our team and look forward to the continued different he’ll make in the lives of those we serve.”
