Let's talk about Stress vs Overwhelmed.

Are you stressed or overwhelmed? Can you tell the difference? They are really different yet often we interchange them. Language is important & properly labeling your emotions is beneficial for 3 reasons.

1. So people can help us
2. So we know what we need
3. So we don't have one emotion shifting to become another because we misnamed it.

This is so incredibly important with these emotions because language doesn't just communicate what we're feeling, it shapes it.

Here are the definitions:

STRESSED: when we evaluate environmental demand as beyond our ability to cope successfully. This includes elements of unpredictability, uncontrollability and feeling overloaded.

OVERWHELMED: an extreme level of stress, an emotional and or cognitive intensity, to the point of feeling unable to function.

In Atlas of the Heart, Brené Brown reminds us that naming an emotion is the first step to moving through it. Whether you are feeling 'in the weeds' or just 'at a loss,' we are here to help you find your way back to yourself.

Which one are you feeling today?

Being a stepmom comes with a lot of love… and a lot of expectations. Here’s a reminder: it’s okay for stepmoms to set boundaries with their stepchildren.

Boundaries aren’t rejection — they’re healthy. They create structure, respect, and emotional safety for everyone in the home. You don’t have to overextend yourself, tolerate disrespect, or ignore your own needs to prove you care.

Healthy families are built on clear roles, open communication, and mutual respect. When stepmoms honor their limits, they model self-respect, emotional regulation, and healthy relationships.

You can be loving and firm. Supportive and consistent. Caring and boundaried.

Taking care of yourself helps you show up as your best self for the family.

Stepmoms, your needs matter too. 🤍

If you need support with developing confidence & identifying those boundaries, the therapists at FBTW are here to help. 316-613-3995

SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) is a type if depression triggered by the changes of season, and primarily happens in late fall/early winter and lasting through winter to early spring. The decrease in sunlight is a contributing factor. If you notice this affecting your mood, energy levels, & overall well-being, please reach out for support & guidance. And great news...you made it through the 10 darkest weeks of the year!! 316-613-3995
