In celebration of the 5 VBACs my partners and I did this past week, I just had to wear this shirt to work today!! Although it meant that we had to spend an overwhelming number of hours in the hospital, we were thrilled to be able to reduce the potential morbidity that repeat cesareans can bring and also increase the postpartum quality of life from a pain standpoint. God is good! If you have had a prior cesarean delivery, please reach out to your doctor to see if you are a good candidate for a Trial of Labor after Cesarean (TOLAC), leading to a successful VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean)! Thanks to our president elect of ACOG for putting me on to this t-shirt! 🥰🥰

Today is World Prematurity Day!
‌
I remember them like yesterday… the events surrounding the day I became the mother of a 30 week preemie. I literally still have PTSD from it all.
‌
One thing I can say is that I know how to relate to my patients and families who deliver and become NICU parents.
‌
Now that we are beyond that point, watching Zoe grow up now, you’d never look at her and know she was a preemie! All Glory goes to God!
‌
Zoe has so much personality! She’s intelligent, funny and loves to dance, sing and play sports!
‌
To each of you preemie families in the thick of it all, please know, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. 💙💗

I am a board certified Obstetrician Gynecologist and I openly and gladly promote freedom of choice and shared decision making between a provider and patient when it comes to birth control.

Birth control has many uses:
-Helps to effectively plan your family in your own timing
-Gives you time to control your medical conditions like, diabetes, high blood pressure, lupus, seizure disorders, depression, anxiety, etc
-Helps to make your periods lighter and less painful
-It can SAVE YOUR LIFE! If you have conditions that are very risky with pregnancy, birth control can prevent that risk for you

Did you know that Black mothers are less likely than any other race/ethnicity to initiate breastfeeding?

Here are a few reasons Black moms are less likely to start breastfeeding or continue breastfeeding once started:
‌
✔️Lack of support from family/friends, health care professionals, jobs
‌
✔️Lack of resources
‌
✔️Lack of knowledge/education
‌
✔️Lack of breast pump/supplies
‌
✔️Lack of time/maternity leave
‌
I encourage you to
‌
✔️Start thinking about breastfeeding before your baby is born
‌
✔️Become knowledgeable about the resources available to you for support. Many times is not the lack of resources, but the lack of knowledge about the resources
‌
✔️Learn how your job can support you in your breastfeeding journey and ask questions about areas and time to pump
‌
✔️Find out if your insurance pays for a pump. If not, place a pump on your baby registry- Mark it priority!
