Thank you, Barbara G. from Lake Mary, for your thoughtful review. We’re grateful for your trust and honored to provide compassionate, personalized care for your macular degeneration visits.

About Macular Degeneration (AMD) Age-related macular degeneration affects the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, detailed vision. Early detection and ongoing treatment can help slow progression and preserve sight. There are two types of age-related macular degeneration: Dry AMD and Wet AMD.
Dry AMD is the most common and usually progresses slowly.
Wet AMD is less common but more serious, caused by abnormal blood vessels that leak under the retina. Early detection is key, and treatments are available to help protect vision.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Brianna Robinson, a beloved member of the Florida Retina Institute family. Brianna was a dedicated member of the Florida Retina Institute Jacksonville team, holding multiple roles including Front Desk Specialist, Authorization & VA Specialist, and Medical Records Specialist, consistently demonstrating professionalism, dedication, and a strong sense of responsibility. A trusted team member and natural protector, she always placed the needs of others first and offered unwavering support to her colleagues, ensuring no one faced a challenge alone.

Humble, giving, and kind, Brianna was more than a colleague, she was a friend and a steady source of encouragement within our offices. She had a thoughtful way of offering guidance and reassurance and was lovingly known as an “auntie” to many of the FRI babies. These qualities reflected the outstanding commitment and care she brought to her work and to every relationship she formed. Brianna loved her family and was especially devoted to her siblings, always showing up with unwavering support. Independent and confident, she embraced life fully and on her own terms. A proud Beyoncé fan, she enjoyed traveling to events and celebrating the things that brought her joy.

Brianna will be greatly missed by her Florida Retina Institute family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of kindness, strength, and generosity will continue to live on in the many lives she touched.

On behalf of our physicians and staff, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Brianna’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.

Golf relies heavily on depth perception, contrast sensitivity, and peripheral vision, making regular eye exams an important part of staying on top of your game. January is Glaucoma Awareness Month: Protect Your Vision. Glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight” because it can progress without noticeable symptoms until vision loss occurs. Early detection is key—glaucoma can lead to irreversible vision loss if not managed promptly.

Florida Retina Institute specializes in vitreo-retinal diseases and surgery. While we do not treat glaucoma, our advanced imaging and exams can help detect changes that may indicate risk. We encourage patients to maintain regular comprehensive eye exams with their eye care provider to protect vision for life.
Make 2026 the year of proactive eye care.
