Saying goodbye is not just for humans

With love and determination, a devoted family brought a powerful final wish to life at our hospital.

Surrounded by family, friends, and her beloved horses, Claiborne Miller-Davis was brought outside to be near Princess and Stormy — a moment made possible because of the love of her family and the compassion of our team.

Claiborne, a lifelong nurse and honoree of the 2024 Virginia Nurses Foundation Leadership Excellence Award, was defined by two things: caring for others and her deep bond with horses. She and her daughter, Elizabeth, worked side by side for years, training and competing with their horses — a team built on trust and love.

This moment offered much: soft noses, warm breaths, and a quiet exchange of love that words can’t quite capture. For our entire team, it was a true honor to play a part in making this moment happen.
