The Protein Gap Most Midlife Women Don’t Realize They Have
One of the most common things I see with women in their 40s and 50s is something I call the protein gap.
They’re eating fairly well.
They’re trying to make good choices.
But when we actually look at what they eat in a day, they are often getting far less protein than their body now needs.
This matters more in midlife than most women realize.
Adequate protein helps support:
**Muscle maintenance
**Metabolic health
**Blood sugar stability
**Hormone balance
**Energy and satiety
**Healthy aging
As estrogen declines, maintaining muscle becomes even more important for long term health, strength, and independence.
Yet many women start their day with something like toast, coffee, or a small yogurt.
Then wonder why they feel hungry, tired, or foggy by mid-morning.
A simple shift that can make a difference:
Aim for 20–30 grams of protein at breakfast.
**Eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, a protein smoothie, or leftovers from dinner all count.
You don’t have to do everything perfectly.
You just need to start supporting your body differently than you did ten years ago.
Curious question
Do you currently pay attention to protein intake
or is it something you’ve never really thought about?
