We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Papacostas. He was more than an exceptional physician…he was a warm smile in the hallways, a trusted friend to many, and a compassionate caregiver to countless patients. His dedication to medicine and to our community left a lasting impact on Clinton Regional, and he will be missed tremendously by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, colleagues, and patients during this difficult time.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the sudden passing of Dr. George Papacostas, a highly respected Beacon physician, award-winning surgeon, father, and friend.

Beacon's Dr. F**d shared: "When George and I were residents there was a yearly competition for academic excellence. I am not accustomed to losing but he won first place for five years in a row and I always came in second. The prize was a gift card to the medical center bookstore which he called his 'smart money'. He usually shared it with me to buy snacks for call. George was incredibly intelligent but more importantly he could always be counted on to do the right thing for his patients no matter the cost. He tried to act tough at times but under the surface was a kind and caring physician who just wanted to help people. I miss you George. Thank you for sharing your smart money with me and for keeping me humble."

Dr. Papacostas had a remarkable career spanning two decades while specializing in a wide range of orthopedic procedures – trauma, arthroscopic surgery, total joint replacement, foot and ankle surgery, and general orthopedics – and an unwavering dedication to the patients he served in the Wilmington community.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and patients.

The holiday season can be a busy and emotional time in healthcare, and our team gives so much of themselves every single day. This week, we hit pause for a few smiles, a few laughs, and a whole lot of tail wags thanks to pet therapy 🐾

A huge thank you to Becky and Gerry for bringing their four lovable therapy dogs to spend time with our staff. The cuddles were generous, the stress relief was real, and the joy was contagious. You could feel the energy lift the moment those paws walked through the door.

Mission accomplished. Hearts were warmed, spirits were recharged, and our team headed back to caring for others with full cups and happy hearts. 💙
