Rocky Pour, age 20, peacefully crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on Monday, May 24th at home and surrounded by his loving family (and a quarter pounder hamburger).
Born in 2001, Rocky joined the Pour family when he was adopted in 2009. Despite a very growly start, he taught the entire family the true meaning of unconditional love. Rocky was a Jack Russell Terrier through and through and in his younger days, there wasn’t a squirrel he wouldn’t chase or hole he wouldn’t dig. He enjoyed going on road trips, vacationing in the mountains, going out to eat at restaurants, running around with a ball in his mouth, dressing up for Halloween, ripping the guts and squeakers out of stuffed animals, and wearing bowties. He adored the ladies and never met a female dog who didn’t make his tail wag. But more than anything else, Rocky loved his family and was a constant companion through heartache, grief and joy.
Throughout his life, Rocky overcame many obstacles and fears: thunderstorms, lightening, fireworks, hands and feet, and being approached while sleeping. The once reactive and cowering worrier became a confident, social and happy Jack Russell. Being full of personality, he acquired a plethora of nicknames over the years: Rockstar, Mr. Growley, Rocky Five Paws, Rocktoberfest, Count Drock-ula, Rock Lobster, Rockadoodle, Rockabear, Rock Monster, Gorignak, Rockabilly, Rock and Roller, Little Rock Arkansas and Electro Rockamuffin.
Rocky was a valued employee at PawPrints Magazine where he assisted in publishing and monthly proofing, napped in the office, retrieved toys and kept laps warm. When he retired in 2019, he spent his days exploring different cuisines and treats; and enjoying full body massages, acupuncture, chiropractic adjustments, laser treatments, and naps in his ever expanding collection of dog beds.
He leaves behind his brother, Spike; his sister, Lucy; his Mom and Dad, his Aunt Kelly, his Uncle Todd, and the many friends who enjoyed his company and kisses. Rocky was preceded in death by his Grandma Linda; his brother, Oscar; and his sister, Madison.
Rocky will forever be missed and always remembered. He was a one-of-a-kind friend, protector, playmate and the most loyal companion anyone could ever ask for. He is the epitome of why more families should adopt senior pets.
The Pour family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Sheila Hanby of Capeside Animal Hospital, Dr. Nicolle Rubendall of Coastal Mobile Natural Animal Healing and Whole Pet Veterinary Hospital Wilmington, Dr. Brad Kerr of Wellspring Holistic Veterinary Care, Kerry Bradley and staff of Aunt Kerry's Pet Stop, and Jill Jones and Sherry Gloer of Adopt-An-ANGEL.
In lieu of gifts, please cuddle with your pets a little longer today in honor of Rocky. ❤ Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be sent to Adopt-An-ANGEL, P.O. Box 15095, Wilmington, NC 28408. 🐾
