A eulogy isn't about finding the perfect words. It's about telling the truth about someone's life.

The funny stories. The quiet moments. The things only you would know.

When we share those memories out loud, something shifts. The person we lost becomes real again, not just to us, but to everyone in the room.

The best eulogies aren't polished. They're personal.

A will and a pre-plan are not the same thing, and you might need both.

A will covers what happens to your stuff: your home, your accounts, your belongings. It goes into effect after you pass and has to go through probate.

A pre-plan covers what happens to you: your funeral wishes, your service details, and sometimes even the costs. It goes into effect immediately and takes the burden off your family.

One protects your assets. The other protects your loved ones from having to guess.

Questions? We're always here to help.

🌹 Rose: You're a classic. Timeless, elegant, and a little romantic at heart.

🌷 Tulip: You appreciate simplicity and beauty in equal measure.

🌻 Sunflower: You light up a room. Warm, joyful, and impossible to ignore.

🌸 Lily: You bring peace wherever you go. Calm, graceful, and deeply loved.

Flowers have always been a way to say what words can't.

Over the weekend we had our first cleaning for 2026 of Maides Cemetery. It was nice to see familiar faces and some new volunteers.

Maides Cemetery is a historical cemetery in Wilmington, NC that had long been abandoned. The restoration process began in 2021 with Kathy King looking for her sister that was buried in the cemetery when they were children. Chelsea has been part of the cleaning since day one and now organizes the cleanings to stay on top of the growth and preservation.

More information on the cemetery can be read here: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/5e64c45c58f844a693677fea5d3cee1e

The next cleaning will be Saturday, May 23rd

Thank you to Ann with Daughters of the American Revolution and their donation from The Home Depot on Eastwood Rd for donating the lawn bags.

Also thank you to Hillary with UNCW Department of Sociology and Criminology for getting her class involved.

Please consider making a donation to the cemetery preservation fund here: https://www.tmcfunding.com/funds/maides-cemetery-preservation-fund-2/15938/

If you are interested in volunteering please send us a message and ask for Chelsea.

It's one of the most important conversations you'll ever have, and one of the easiest to put off.

Here are 6 ways to start:
1. Pick a calm, quiet moment (not during a crisis)
2. Start by sharing your own wishes first
3. Ask open-ended questions like "What matters most to you?"
4. Listen without jumping in to fix or solve
5. Write down what you both agree on
6. Revisit it once a year because wishes can change

You don't have to figure it all out in one conversation. You just have to start.

Ask someone in their 60s, 70s, or 80s about their strongest memories, and most of them will come from the same window: ages 15 to 25.

Psychologists call this the "reminiscence bump."

It's why the songs from our teenage years still hit different. Why we remember that first car, that first job, that first heartbreak in vivid detail.

Those years shape who we become. And when we sit with someone near the end of life, those are often the stories they want to tell.

What's your strongest memory from that time?

Spring is the perfect time to tackle those little things that make a big difference. Here are a few easy wins to check off this season:

Around the house
β†’ Swap out winter clothes and donate what you didn't wear
β†’ Deep clean one room you've been avoiding
β†’ Replace batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms

Life admin
β†’ Shred old paperwork you no longer need
β†’ Update emergency contacts on your accounts
β†’ Review your insurance policies and beneficiaries

Peace of mind
β†’ Put your important documents in one place
β†’ Have a conversation with your family about your wishes
β†’ Make a plan, even if it's just the first step

You don't have to do it all at once. Pick one thing and start there.

Harley has been serving as our comfort dog since December 2021 when Don rescued her. She came to work everyday ready to work....and nap. She was a gentle soul, Don knew she was perfect for the job.
