Gracie Ann Turner was a beautiful, loving, selfless person to all who knew her. Ann, as she was so affectionately called, had no children of her own, so she loved everyone else's. She was always actively involved with the youth at her church, Bethesda Friends Meeting. She had nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and even great great-nieces and nephews, whom she loved beyond measure. She lived by God's Holy Word, always giving of herself and all she had, whether it was sitting with a friend in the hospital, taking food to a family who had lost a loved one or helping someone with unforeseen financial difficulties. She enjoyed her family immensely, attending every birthday, graduation, shower and wedding celebration, and having Thanksgiving and Christmas meals at her home, catering to as many as 25-30 guests at a time. Many hours were spent with family and friends, enjoying each other, telling stories and laughing all the while. Ann began to have difficulty speaking and began to lose weight, her voice becoming raspy and hard to understand. She became fatigued all the time. After months of attempting to diagnose her condition, she was finally told she had bulbar-onset ALS. She never reached the point where she could not walk. Once she was given her diagnosis, she returned to her home and spent her last days with her family continually by her side. She smiled and held our hands while we were the ones who cried, heart-broken. The weekend of February 8, she had managed to scribble her name"love,Ann" and a short note, "I love Hayden", to her husband of 55 years on a Valentine's Day card. She passed away early in the morning of February 15, 2014. She has left with us a legacy of love and inspiration that will touch our family for generations to come. Our prayer is that a cure to this horrible disease is soon found, so that no others will have to endure the heartbreak it causes.
