Do you know how hard it is to convince a doctor that you're not overeating when you look like this? I had Cushing's disease with a pituitary tumor. The tumor was secreting cortisol into my body making me fat. Dr. Friedman do you have any suggestions for how we can convince doctors? They see us as fat and lazy because we have no strength or energy to exercise and suffer from extreme fatigue. Any suggestions would be appreciated. So many people are suffering from this and don't know what it is.

Curious. What do you recommend as a delicious and healthy holiday dinner? I am making Shrimp Francesca which is made up of shrimp, artichoke, butter, garlic, bread crumbs, fresh parsley and Parmesan cheese. (Recipe is on Allrecipes.com) I usually serve with a side of linguini, olive oil, garlic and broccoli. I was also going to make a salad and chicken picante as well. I want salmon but my mom (the matriarch of the family) is not a fan of it. Anyway, that’s Christmas Eve dinner. Christmas Day is a killer Italian meal at my family’s house which will consist of lasagna, pot roast with baby potatoes carrots and peas and mushrooms along with shrimp cocktail, and a ham. I have very little control of what we have on Christmas Day but have a little more control over what we have on Christmas Eve. When it comes to holidays and family parties I find that I do not have a lot of control over what I put in my mouth as well but I am a little more motivated to be on good behavior because I will be the mother of the bride in seven months.

FOOD LABEL LIE #1: Using a different name to hide ingredients.

Instead of sugar, they call it crystal dextrose. Rather than divulging the product contains Monosodium Glutamate (MSG,) they use the words autolyzed yeast. Instead of listing saccharin, they call it NectaSweet. And, to hide the artificial sweetener aspartame, they call it NatraTaste Blue instead.

FOOD LABEL LIE #2: The words “Natural” and “Organic.”

People associate these words as meaning pesticide and hormone free, non-GMO, and without artificial ingredients. False! There are no criteria for these words. A product can claim to contain “100% all-natural fruit juice” yet in the fine print on the back you’ll find, “contains only 8% real fruit juice.” This is a legal loophole. The fruit juice they use is 100% real; however, the other 92% is not. Also, unless you see “USDA Certified Organic,” the word organic means nothing.

FOOD LABEL LIE #3: "Free Range"

Sounds like the animals are free to roam the hillside and eat whatever is natural to them. False! Meat and poultry can be classed as “free-range” if the animal has been allowed access to the outside, even if they don’t use it. For example, thousands of chickens can be crammed together in a barn with a door open as little as five minutes a day. Most will never see sunshine or get any fresh air.

A viral social media post is claiming grocery stores spray “toxic” wax on apples to make them shiny and look more appealing.

The truth is, apples produce their own natural waxy coating which helps enhance the fruit’s firmness, and slows down degradation. Not only is this wax edible, it's actually good for you!

The major component of apple fruit wax is called ursolic acid which has multiple health benefits for the heart, brain, liver and muscles; including anti cancer properties.

Sometimes food-grade wax is added to the outside of cucumbers and root crops, like rutabagas and turnips. This helps increase shelf life. However, in these circumstances, carnauba wax is used. This is a natural wax produced by the leaves of the carnauba palm. It’s 100% food grade and safe to eat.

However, I do recommend washing fruit and veggies before eating them which helps remove pesticide residue.

Here are two tips on keeping guacamole from turning brown:

🥑Method #1: Storing Guacamole with the Avocado Pit.

When the avocado pit sits in the guacamole it will protect the green guac from browning. This creates a protective aura that reminds the guacamole where it came from. It also emits chemicals that counteract the oxidation process. For added protective measure, you can wrap the bowl with plastic wrap.

🥑Method #2: Cover Guacamole With a Layer of Water.

Water sits on top of the dense, fatty food, acting like an impermeable shield. It does not get absorbed into the guac. Before serving, gently pour off the water and give it a swift stir. The water won’t dilute the flavor or impact the texture of the dip. It may seem peculiar, but you should water your guac before you store it.

Food Sanity: How to Eat in a World of Fads and Fiction

In my book Food Sanity, I take a deep dive into the BAD side of vitamin supplements. Top on that list is vitamin C (ascorbic acid)! Research shows taking only 500 mg per day of vitamin C may cause genetic damage to your genes and offspring.

Ironically, many health experts say at the first sign of a cold or sore throat you should “Double up on your Vitamin C”! Great! Damage your cells when you are sick and most vulnerable. 🤦🏻

Unlike the healthy form of vitamin C naturally present in berries and citrus fruits, most vitamin C in supplement form (aka ascorbic acid) is created in a laboratory using a concoction of toxic chemicals.

The recipe for ascorbic acid includes:

•Acetone (also used in nail polish remover.)

•Perchloric acid (used to make rocket fuel and explosives.)

•Bleach and Benzene (a cancerous chemical used to make gasoline.)

•Toluene (a poisonous solvent used in glues and paints.)

That’s how Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is made, in a laboratory, not by Mother Nature.

👉🏼Stay away from synthetic vitamin C and go with NATURAL sources derived from acerola cherries, rose hips, gooseberries, camu camu, or goji berries. This form of vitamin C will help boost your immune system.
