Friday, I was contacted by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to offer commentary on the heartbreaking school shooting in British Columbia. I agreed because every time a community experiences senseless violence, we all feel it — families, educators, children, first responders, and those of us who have walked alongside survivors of trauma and loss.

There are no perfect words for moments like these. No explanation that makes the unbearable feel bearable. What I try to offer — whether in person with a family, in a counseling session, or in a media conversation like this — is honesty, compassion, and a reminder that grief is real, pain is real, and connection matters now more than ever.

To the families who lost loved ones, to the students and staff who lived through this nightmare, and to the entire community of British Columbia: my heart breaks with you. There is no timeline for this kind of healing, and there is no “getting over it.” There is only walking through it — together, with support, with care, with presence.

Thank you to the CBC for the opportunity to speak about what matters most in moments like this — humanity, dignity, and the shared work of caring for one another.

If you watched the segment and have thoughts, reflections, or experiences you want to share, I’d be grateful to hear them. Let’s hold space for one another with empathy and respect.

💛

It’s my birthday.
Don’t get me gifts.
Go be a decent human today.

Then vote for a first responder or healthcare crew to win a free pizza lunch. 🍕

Kindness is the only thing I’m blowing out candles for.

“Must be nice to have time for that.”

No.
It’s not nice.
It’s necessary.

You don’t “find” time to decompress.
You stop pretending burnout is a personality trait and you make it.

Because if you don’t regulate on purpose…
you will discharge on accident.

And the people around you will feel it.

So yes — it’s nice.
You should try it.

IT’S GOING DOWN TODAY!!! 🍻🎉

Philly Beer Fest is HERE and I’m celebrating my birthday weekend the only way I know how… surrounded by 40 of your favorite breweries and a whole lot of amazing people.

Come hang out with me, sample some incredible beer, laugh a little too loud, take a few pictures, and help me ring in another year around the sun. If you see me walking around with a big smile and a tasting glass, that’s not just the beer… it’s gratitude.

There is something special about bringing great people together for a great time — and if we can raise a glass, make memories, and raise money for the Trauma Survivors Foundation! Even better.

Grab your crew. Show up thirsty. Let’s make this birthday one for the books.

See you at Philly Beer Fest! 🍺🔥

If your “relaxing” looks like doom-scrolling, emotional snacking, snapping at your kids, and calling isolation “self-care”… we need to talk.

That’s not regulation.
That’s numbing with better branding.

If you don’t discharge stress on purpose, it leaks out sideways.

You’re not weak for needing recovery time.
You’re dangerous without it.

If you’re sitting in your driveway right now… stay there.
You’re not avoiding life.
You’re regulating so you don’t bleed on people who didn’t cut you.

When the trauma therapist gets hit with,
“Okay Doc… but what do you do to decompress?”

Oh… we’re auditing the auditor now?

Short answer: breathing in my driveway, lifting heavy things, controlled nonsense, and arguing with my 4-year-old about why we don’t need a parrot.

Long answer: you don’t eliminate stress — you metabolize it.

And yes… sometimes I need five extra minutes in the car.
That’s not avoidance. That’s regulation.

Join us Sunday, March 1 from 11AM–3PM at Seasons Pizza on Kirkwood Highway as we kick off Margherita for a Mission 🍕

For the entire month of March, a portion of every Margherita pizza sold at all Delaware Seasons Pizza locations will benefit The Trauma Survivors Foundation — supporting national crisis response and trauma-informed care for frontline workers and families impacted by trauma.

Stop by for lunch. Bring the kids. Grab takeout. Every slice counts.

And don’t forget to vote for which local department we’ll donate pizzas to at the conclusion of the event — link in bio.

Eat pizza. Support trauma survivors. Win-win.

Decompression isn’t universal.
It has to match the personality that survived the shift.

Sedation ≠ decompression.
Know the difference.

Tag someone who needs a reset — not another drink.
