Education Support Professionals play a vital role in the lives of students. From clerical workers, to food service workers, to custodial and maintenance workers and paraeducators — they work hand-in-hand with teachers to cultivate student success.

ESPs are often the first people to greet students in the morning and the last to see them at the end of the school day. They keep schools running and are dedicated to ensuring that students are safe, healthy, and ready to learn.

But across the nation, many ESPs struggle with inadequate pay, health care, and training.

Do you know a public school educator who is making a positive impact on their students, their school or their community?

Nominate them for one of DSEA’s All Stars in Education Awards!

From September to May, our union recognizes one teacher and one Education Support Professional in cooperation with iHeartMedia. Winners receive a plaque, a $100 gift card, and other giveaways during a surprise visit to their school or worksite.

Nominations are accepted from educators, administrators, parents, students and community members.

Our Teacher of the Month Award honors classroom teachers and specialists (school counselors, social workers, psychologists, nurses, librarians, occupational and physical therapists, speech language pathologists, etc.)

Our ESP of the Month Award honors paraprofessionals, custodians, food service workers, school secretaries, resources officers, transportation workers, etc.)

Our schools are stronger when our educators value diverse cultural perspectives, deliver equitable instruction, and work together to support students from all backgrounds and learning styles.

DSEA’s Ethnic Minority Affairs Committee (EMAC) helps to advance that mission by giving educators from all backgrounds a space to discuss their experiences and share ideas about how to better provide a culturally responsive education for all students.

All educators are welcome to join us for the 2026 DSEA EMAC Conference at Odessa High School on Saturday, March 7.

Be sure to save the date now and then check back here for more information as we get closer to the big event.

Together, we’re stronger!

Educators play a critical role in students’ academic, social, and emotional growth—but too many face threats and aggression at work. Violence against educators impacts entire school communities. NEA and the American Psychological Association are working to elevate this issue and share resources to help keep educators, staff, and students safe.
