Teacher Appreciation Week begins tomorrow! Let’s show our dedicated teachers how much we appreciate them by transforming appreciation into ACTION. That means respect, fair wages, and a voice at the table when decisions about our schools and students’ futures are made.

Here are some ways to turn your APPRECIATION into ACTION:
💙 Support collective bargaining rights in your state. Educators earn more—24% more, on average—where they have strong unions and the freedom to bargain collectively.
💙 Vote for pro-public education candidates for your school board, state house, and U.S. Congress.
💙 Speak up for teachers at school board meetings. Ensure their voices and needs are heard by local leaders who decide funding, salaries, benefits, class sizes, and more.

Our vote is our voice. Equal access to voting is fundamental to democracy.

Delaware’s school funding formula hasn’t meaningfully changed in more than 80 years. It was built for a different time, a different classroom, and a different set of student needs.

This week, the Public Education Funding Commission took a step forward, advancing a model that allows funding to follow students so that educators have what they need to deliver stronger outcomes in every classroom. (Learn more: https://education.delaware.gov/community/pefc/)

Our strategic plan is grounded in the belief that every student deserves the resources they need to succeed. Moving toward a more flexible system will allow schools to better support multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and students living in poverty.
