As doulas, our goal is to provide non-biased, evidence-based support and education during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Through the CFAD Doula Support Scholarship, we provide birth doula or postpartum doula support services to local pregnant people in need. We sincerely believe that doula access is a reproductive justice issue and that all birthing bodies deserve to be well-supported and informed during their childbearing year.
We are now accepting rolling applications on a first-come basis. Any local pregnant or postpartum person who resides in New Hanover county or in one of the surrounding counties is invited to apply for this needs-based scholarship if they are seeking:

~ birth doula support
~ postpartum doula support
Preference for awards for professional doula support will be given to low-income families, single parents, and birthing or postpartum people facing hardships.

As May comes to a close, I’m so grateful to take a moment to introduce myself here — I’m Alayah, a certified postpartum doula through DONA International, and a devoted nurterer of parents and caregivers in their most sacred season.

My journey into this work began two years ago following the birth of my godson. In learning how to take care of him, I learned how important it is to take care of his caretakers as well. I believe I have been called to take care primary caretakers — to hold space, offer rest, and support the healing that unfolds after birth. With experience in newborn care, feeding support, and traditional healing, I walk beside parents in their most tender days.

To my fellow doulas: thank you for the heart you pour into this work. And to every other parent I’ve had the honor of supporting — thank you for letting me witness your strength, softness, and transformation.

Here’s to holding space for the village — one family at a time. 💛
