Happy ! This month CAMP is celebrating Black LGBTQ+ icons like Marsha P. Johnson, who emerged as a leading figure in the gay rights movement during the 1960s and 1970s in New York City. Known for her ever-present smile, Marsha "Pay It No Mind" Johnson became a vital advocate for homeless LGBTQ+ youth, individuals affected by HIV and AIDS, and the broader fight for gay and transgender rights. She rose to fame for her role in the Stonewall Uprising and later as one of the founders of S.T.A.R. (Street Transvestites Action Revolutionaries). Today, for National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, we recognize her incredible work for the community. Stay tuned for the rest of our series on Black LGBTQ+ icons!
