A note from the Mindful PT...

I've worked hard over the years to become a highly accomplished Physical Therapist, runner, and triathlete. Along the way I have learned a lot of great information, which I hope to share with you through this site! Let me start off by saying that I am on this journey with you. I’ve been riding the ups and downs for years, feeling like I am doing everything right but

making no progress. After running the steeplechase in the 2007 NCAA regional championships, the culmination of my collegiate running career, I was done in every sense of the word. My body had begun a downward spiral that started the previous year with a hip injury. Since then, I have raced sprint triathlons, half marathons, even half-ironman triathlons, and had some PRs no less, but my body has never been right. I have been plagued by fatigue and pain while doing EVERY "right" thing I could think of. I entered into a cycle of planning races, training, getting sick or injured, taking a break, and starting the whole process over again, each time with some grandiose plan for my return. You may think that my struggle isn’t your struggle, that while I was painfully trying to compete in triathlons you were struggling with your fourth diet in three years, had trouble walking a mile, or couldn't handle work stress. What if our struggle was the same? What if the access to the health I want and the access to the health you want are both being derailed by the same crucial disconnection from the messages our bodies were desperately trying to give us? Here at Plugged in Body, I would like to help with that disconnect. I would like to suggest that behind every scientifically proven method for optimal health and performance, beyond every “ideal” diet and body composition, beyond every breakthrough in running form and golf swing, there is your body’s innate sacred wisdom and that real gains and breakthroughs in physical health involve listening to that inner wisdom first. When we plug into this, when we become mindful of what message our bodies are trying to tell us, we can move forward toward our health and fitness goals.
